The measure was introduced by Supervisors Lindsey Horvath and Hilda Solis, both Democrats, and only has one public comment attached to it.
The proposal outlines that it would “Declare the State of mental health services and overcrowding in the Los Angeles County jails a humanitarian crisis, requiring the County to move with all deliberate speed on meaningful solutions; and prioritize decreasing the number of individuals entering the Los Angeles County Jails.”
If passed, the local sheriff would be instructed to review its bail thresholds and to cite and release “individuals with aggregate bail amounts set at $50,000 or below.”
The Los Angeles Superior Court would be directed to “implement the Emergency Bail Schedule that was in place at the height of the COVID pandemic” in an effort to “prioritize increased opportunities for pre-trial release.”
The vice president of the Los Angeles Association of Deputy District Attorneys, Eric Siddall, slammed the agenda item as “dangerous.”
“The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors’ (BOS) motion to gut parts of the criminal justice system without input from stakeholders is dangerous and recklessness,” Siddall told Fox News. “The authors sought no advice from those who know and understand public safety issues. They seek to lower the jail population without addressing the root causes of crime or protecting the public.”
He said that under the proposal, law enforcement officers would be directed to cite and release suspects accused of illegally carrying a firearm, and those arrested on charges such as domestic violence, possession of child pornography, residential burglary, robbery or assault with a firearm.

Holy cow a new word: decarceration!
Not in dictionary.com yet.
They’re just dead set on committing social suicide out there.
“ They’re just dead set on committing social suicide out there.”
Let’s watch and enjoy the show from a safe distance.

I would be ok with trading incarceration for public flogging
one for every month assigned
Good for them. They are making room for Trump supporters.
Isn’t it strange how the same bastards who want to disarm the American people are the same bastards who are releasing the murdering bastards from prison. Something stinks here. America needs to wake up and smell the dung piles.
It’s not just CA.
Just like it’s not just NYS banning replease of mugshots...
Obama's "social justice army" modeled after Robert Mugabe's "Zanu, People's Front".
Must be they are overworked adding infantile new "verbing" to noun entries but they'll get around to 'decarceration'. Any stupidity they can add to our language, especially with a woke element to it, won't be left out for long. They'll probably even make fake reprints of 1828 Websters in their effort to legitimize it.
I live in L.A. County, :(
Pre-trial release should be based both on flight risk and likelihood of committing another crime before trial.
The judicial decision should be made by a judge.
There are still some great places in LA County. If I had the money, I would spend 3 months a year in Westlake Village. I get out there sometimes for business and stay in that area. It gives me a good launching point to go south or north for various customer meetings. I find it incredibly relaxing and try to tack on a few additional days.
Beautiful 30 minute drive down to the coast too.
Avalon is another place I like going to that is part of LA County.
Aren’t your crime rates high enough?
In CA, you won’t get a side look by LE for stealing $949. Everything else, you get a slap on the wrist. Please, keep it up so all the nation’s criminals move to CA.
“I live in L.A. County.”
That’s your choice.

Their intentions are exactly what they appear to be: Societal destruction. The destruction they cause, the lives and property destroyed are the result of conscious purposeful psychosis. Psychos often appear rational, but create only havoc.
