The BRICS alliance is exploring the creation of an innovative currency, with plans to share proposals on its establishment at the forthcoming summit in South Africa, according to Alexander Babakov, deputy chairman of Russia's parliament, the State Duma.
Speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum event in New Delhi, India, on Thursday, Babakov said that the plan is to initially transition to using domestic currencies in transactions and then introduce and circulate a digital or alternative form of a groundbreaking currency in the near future.
Babakov anticipates that the BRICS leaders summit will reveal a preparedness to implement this particular initiative, with work on the project ongoing, news agency Sputnik reported.

The thing about currency is how politically stable is it? How easy is it to convert to another currency? What is the underlying basis of the currency, military, economics, materials, etc.? China, Brazil, Russia are really bad off on all metrics. China doesn’t want their own currency back because they print so much of it. They can’t float it worldwide as the Chinese people would send their cash out the country in a heartbeat. If you have a pile of Yuan, they may or may not let you buy something with it. What is the real value? You won’t know. Brazil is just too small an economy and again, unless you’re buying your stuff from Brazil taking payment in Reals is dangerous. Of the group, India is the best bet, but again, what are you going to buy from them in Rupees? If each country has something the other needs, then the deal works. But if you want to buy something from someone not in on the deal you have to convert to a different currency, and someone has to want to buy your Reals or Yuan.

My guess is it will be a gold denominated unit. Gold is gold. It doesn’t need anyone to manage it. China and Russia have been digging up gold at significant levels. China also buys it by the ton.

I just don’t see people lining up to cash in their U.S. dollars for a currency based on economies of Russia, Iran, Brazil and South Africa.

Devaluation of us dollar started shortly after the gold window closed back in 1971 when it was $35.00 per ounce. Now it is at $2000.00.
