On Thursday, Florida lawmakers filed a bill that would allow Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) to run for president without having to first resign from the governor’s office.
Current state law mandates that if DeSantis were to run for another office, he would have to resign from his current post in order to do so, as reported by the Epoch Times.
The bill, Senate Bill 7050, was filed at 6:08 p.m. just roughly thirty minutes after news broke that 45th President Donald Trump will be indicted by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D).
The filing comes after Gov. DeSantis took a stand for President Trump against the unjustified indictment, taking to Twitter to decry the “anti-American’ nature of the political persecution.
“The weaponization of the legal system to advance a political agenda turns the rule of law on its head,” DeSantis wrote. “It is un-American.”

WATCH: TRUMP TEAM RELEASES POWERFUL VIRAL AD IN RESPONSE TO INDICTMENT
“The Soros-backed Manhattan District Attorney has consistently bent the law to downgrade felonies and to excuse criminal misconduct,” he explained. “Yet, now he is stretching the law to target a political opponent.”
“Florida will not assist in an extradition request given the questionable circumstances at issue with this Soros-backed Manhattan prosecutor and his political agenda,” DeSantis added.
While DeSantis has yet to announce an official run for the presidency, many took his recent book tour as a shadow campaign as the Florida governor crisscrossed the country to tell conservative audiences about his model of leadership.
While the Florida legislature is getting ready to lay the groundwork for DeSantis to run for the Republican nomination, Trump’s indictment likely overshadows its importance.
As if the Trump indictment hasn't been planned for a long time.
The Trump indictment just came clear out of the blue. Who could have seen it coming? Right?
I don’t disagree with your sentiment, but having the advantage of hindsight now that I did not possess 30 years ago, the thing that screwed us the most was “bi-partisanship” and the “uniparty”.
There are far too many bi-partisans who are labeled as conservative.
The “uniparty” is full of conservatives.
When the opposition is dead wrong about something and you meet them halfway and compromise constantly are you going in the right or wrong direction?
This, along with the complacent and ignorant citizenry you point out, is how we got to where we are at now.
Of course, they have no clue that if DeSantis wins the nomination, the grand jury will look into him next.

“2. He must have been indicted in a Democrat sh!t-hole jurisdiction.”
:)
Yet in my supposed blue suburban and urban congressional district the unabashedly pro Trump candidate won by 8 points.
Add to that 75 million Trump votes says that you are wrong.
I don’t support Vivek R., but he presented very well on Jordan Peterson’s podcast. He is a fresh addition to the primaries and will help keep Trump on message, I hope.
Well no wonder you are Boneheaded MinorityRepublican.
Uniparty rules is that your message here?
Me?
I like lots of info, seeing the candidates perform under pressure, and how professionally and effectively they inter-react with all players.
One of the keys to Trump’s success has been his enormous appeal among registered DEMOCRATS. I can tell you right now that no candidate peddled by the establishment GOP is ever going to have that kind of traction among those voters.
LBJ, Clinton and now DeSantis.
The uniparty rocks on!
DeSantis is working with the deep state. Enemy who got out started by Mickey Mouse
Agree.
May the best man win.
No women, please.
The sheep and the goats are already being sorted out for that great and terrible day coming soon (a few decades away IMO).
This is the plan. The ruling class do not want outsiders.
They want lawyers turned professional career politicians...Those who can’t even remotely relate to what’s left of the middle class.
Get rid of Trump by any means necessary, is the name of their game.
Following Trump indictment, TRUMP support GROWS by leaps and bounds.
TRUMP will win in 2024 hands DOWN!!!
What are you smoking in that pipe? TRUMP was defrauded in 2020 and his supporters have NOT forgotten that!! Just watch it all play out.
The rule change may not backfire.
But something else is.
“I don’t support Vivek R., but he presented very well on Jordan Peterson’s podcast. He is a fresh addition to the primaries and will help keep Trump on message, I hope.”
I was open to DeSantis, but there has been FAR TOO MUCH lately regarding him (letting Disney off the hook, kicking Trump when he was down, and signing on with the Neocons regarding starting WW3 in Ukraine), that I simply won’t vote for him.
However, if Trump is viable, he gets my vote - a no-brainer, but if not Vivek, at this point, gets my vote.
