Following Trump Indictment, Florida Legislature Begins to Clear the Way For DeSantis Presidential Run
DC Enquirer ^ | March 31, 2023 | Sterling Mosley

On Thursday, Florida lawmakers filed a bill that would allow Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) to run for president without having to first resign from the governor’s office.

Current state law mandates that if DeSantis were to run for another office, he would have to resign from his current post in order to do so, as reported by the Epoch Times.

The bill, Senate Bill 7050, was filed at 6:08 p.m. just roughly thirty minutes after news broke that 45th President Donald Trump will be indicted by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D).

The filing comes after Gov. DeSantis took a stand for President Trump against the unjustified indictment, taking to Twitter to decry the “anti-American’ nature of the political persecution.

“The weaponization of the legal system to advance a political agenda turns the rule of law on its head,” DeSantis wrote. “It is un-American.”

WATCH: TRUMP TEAM RELEASES POWERFUL VIRAL AD IN RESPONSE TO INDICTMENT

“The Soros-backed Manhattan District Attorney has consistently bent the law to downgrade felonies and to excuse criminal misconduct,” he explained. “Yet, now he is stretching the law to target a political opponent.”

“Florida will not assist in an extradition request given the questionable circumstances at issue with this Soros-backed Manhattan prosecutor and his political agenda,” DeSantis added.

While DeSantis has yet to announce an official run for the presidency, many took his recent book tour as a shadow campaign as the Florida governor crisscrossed the country to tell conservative audiences about his model of leadership.

While the Florida legislature is getting ready to lay the groundwork for DeSantis to run for the Republican nomination, Trump’s indictment likely overshadows its importance.

Well, isn’t that convenient!

So what? Texas did the same for LBJ.

And Trump also used every legal advantage he could find in his business and political careers. He'd do the same as DeSantis if their roles were reversed. And you'd be cheering Trump for it.

DeSantis is the Fall Guy candidate.

Ratz will run circles around him.

In the North, he’ll be labeled as a redneck nobody. Even though he’s the opposite of that.

Every lever will be turned to dump himon his butt in the disgusting thuglands of Blue State hell. He’ll have no weight like Trump.

Trump or nothin, kiddies.

It’s a fantasy. Up against the vile machines in places that could install a decaying deadman like Fetterman, no hope.

While I understand the excitement of the NeverTrumpers (Ukraine War Cheerleaders) in seeing Trump indicted, my Primary vote, at this point, is going to Vivek, as he doesn’t see a need to attack Trump over this indictment (as DeSantis did last week, when he mentioned Stormy), nor does he have an OBSESSION with Putin to start WW3.

But I get that others here may think differently.

Florida's legislature was going to change the law regardless. Trump's indictment has nothing to do with it.

This being said, DeSantis, who I prefer by orders of magnitude over Donald Trump because he's the far better leader, probably needs to lay low for a few weeks until this indictment mess has blown over. Alvin Bragg's actions have solidly cemented Donald Trump's lead for the nomination. This should come as no surprise. A damaged, wounded Trump is the man that the Democrats desperately want to run against in 2024.

So you’re convicting Trump for something he MIGHT have done. And to top it off, what the criminal LBJ did excuses DeSantis. You work for CNN or NBC?

If you think that NeverTrumpers are happy about this indictment, then you're an idiot.

They're probably the least happy about it, seeing how it's only going to better ensure Trump wins the nomination.

Do you think the NeverTrumpers are looking forward to seeing Trump's primary polling numbers skyrocket in the coming week?

At this point, it is Trump or bust.

DeSantis can wait.

Seems like an archaic law, you can’t run for President if you’re Governor. But I can understand the argument: We want you here doing state business if you’re Governor.

What am I "convicting" Trump of?

I have no idea what point you're struggling to communicate.

I disagree that Trump is the one the Democrats want to run.

The proof is the attacks and faux polling that started when he first announced his candidacy for the election in 2016.

He’s perceived as an existential threat to the best Congress money can buy and the corrupt and incompetent federal bureaucracy.

I believe that Biden Administration is manipulating the Republican primaries so we will pick Trump. Then Joe Biden wins reelection easily. In that scenario, they will not even have to cheat.

“Trump or nothin, kiddies.”

Agree. Most of the country is not envious of what DeSantis has done in Florida; most are jealous that their states aren’t as free and thriving as Florida is. You’re right, every lever will be turned against him.

Trump is the only person IMO with the economic chops and foreign credibility to even begin fixing our increasingly existential problems.

He’s has been the only person fighting for us and he’s gone through hell to do it. He deserves the second term that was stolen from him.
