~The FReeper Canteen Presents~ Road Trip: Hill Air Force Base, Utah
Hill Air Force Base is a major U.S. Air Force base located in Davis County, Utah, just south of the city of Ogden, and bordering the Cities of Layton, Clearfield, Riverdale, Roy, and Sunset with its largest border immediately adjacent to Clearfield and Layton. It is about 30 miles north of Salt Lake City. The base was named in honor of Major Ployer Peter Hill of the U.S. Army Air Corps, who died test-flying NX13372, the original Model 299 prototype of the B-17 Flying Fortress bomber.

As of 2018 Hill AFB is the sixth-largest employer in the state of Utah. Hill AFB is the home of the Air Force Materiel Command's (AFMC) Ogden Air Logistics Complex (OO-ALC) which is the worldwide manager for a wide range of aircraft, engines, missiles, software, avionics, and accessories components. The OO-ALC is part of the Air Force Sustainment Center.
The host unit at Hill AFB is the AFMC's 75th Air Base Wing (75 ABW), which provides services and support for the OO-ALC and its subordinate organizations. Additional tenant units at Hill AFB include operational fighter wings of Air Combat Command (ACC) and Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC).
The Utah Test and Training Range is one of the only live-fire U.S. Air Force training ranges within the United States. It is located in far western Utah, close to the Nevada border, and it extends both north and south of Interstate Highway 80, with several miles of separation on each side of the Interstate Highway. The portion of the bombing range that lies north of Interstate 80 is also west of the Great Salt Lake. The Utah Test and Training Range lies in Tooele County, and the land is owned by the state of Utah, but the use of the airspace and training exercises are scheduled by Hill AFB.
Hill AFB has also housed the 30-acre Hill Aerospace Museum since 1981. This contains more than 80 retired USAF, U.S. Army Air Forces, U.S. Navy and former Warsaw Pact fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and missiles.

Stress to Peace
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
Philippians 4:6Moving ranks as one of the biggest stressors in life. We moved to our current home after I’d lived in my previous one for nearly twenty years. I’d lived alone in that first home for eight years before I got married. Then my husband moved in, along with all his things. Later, we added a child, and that meant even more stuff.
Our moving day to the new house wasn’t without incident. Five minutes before the movers arrived, I was still finishing up a book manuscript. And the new home had several sets of stairs, so it took double the time and twice as many movers as planned.
But I wasn’t feeling stressed out by the events of that day. Then it hit me: I’d spent many hours finishing writing a book—one chock-full with Scripture and biblical concepts. By God’s grace, I’d been poring over the Bible, praying, and writing to meet my deadline. So, I believe the key was my immersion in Scripture and in prayer.
Paul wrote, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (Philippians 4:6). When we pray—and “rejoice in” God (v. 4)—we refocus our mind from the problem to our Provider. We may be asking God to help us deal with a stressor, but we’re also connecting with Him, which can provide a peace “which transcends all understanding” (v. 7). .
Reflect & Pray
What stressful situations do you need God to give you peace in today? How can praying with thanksgiving transform your mind?
Provider and Protector, I give my concerns to You. May Your peace guard my mind and heart.

My first job out of high school was flipping burgers at a little trailer called The Retreat next to the Officer’s Club swimming pool at Hill. 25 cents for a real quarter pound cheeseburger, plus seeing the girls in their bikinis was pretty hard to take for a 17 year old. I had to pick up and deliver supplies from the Flight Line Cafe right on the runway. If I timed it right I’d show up just as they were taking a big roast out of the oven, and they’d give me the end cut on two slices of white bread. I’ve never had a better roast beef sandwich ANYWHERE in 56 years.

Howdy, lauren.
I’m a bit late getting here tonight and see your lousy weather has passed on by. I hope things didn’t get too dicey there.

Hey there, radu!
I did! I felt a lot better when I woke up this morning. It was a gorgeous day here, and I even opened the doors and got some much-needed house work done.
How was it there? Still pretty nice? Did you get some sunshine, too/

Always nice to get a long night’s sleep after having to get up at the crack of dawn. That’s painful for night owls. LOL
It was a nice day here. Warm enough to open windows a little and there was a nice breeze.
I did get out in the sunshine more than I expected to. I woke up to see one of Hubby’s buddies was here to haul off some of his stuff that’s been here for several years. Went out to talk to him for a bit.
Later, another guy showed up to move several cars in a field that were parked on the property line between my place and the woods that used to be ours. That land was recently sold again and the new owner plans to build a house and put a fence along the property line. I was out there while the cars were being moved and the new neighbor showed up and hung out. Then Hubby’s cousin showed up and we stayed out there talking til it was almost dark.
So I got quite a bit of fresh air and sunshine and it felt good. Tomorrow is supposed to be quite a bit cooler so I’m glad this all went on today.

Finally those guys are getting their stuff out of there so it doesn’t look like a used car lot in the back of the place. I know you’re glad to have them get it done. What’s the new neighbor like? Nice? I hope so.
Great that you got some sunshine. It’s always a good thing. We’re supposed to have much cooler weather tomorrow and surprise-surprise....more high wind. Bah!

These cars weren’t removed from the field. Just placed in a different area. The guy who did the moving HAS gotten several of HIS cars out of here but today’s cars either belonged to Hubby or belong to one of my “guardian angels”. That “angel” is going to walk around with me soon to point out which cars were Hubby’s. I can mark those and if someone wants to buy one of the cars for parts, I’ll know if we can haggle or if I need to send them to my “angel” to haggle. Just all kinds o’ fun. LOL
I haven’t heard about our winds being too strong tomorrow but I’m sure it’ll be breezy since a front’s coming through. We had a nice breeze today but now it’s making it feel pretty brisk outside. Tomorrow night’s when we’re going to drop to close to freezing and have frost. brrrrrr
