Russia’s Dreams of Producing 1,500 Tanks a Year as a Loss of Reality: What Is the Maximum the Kremlin Can Count On
Defense Express ^ | March 25, 2023 | Defense Express

In order to achieve these indicators, russia says that they will use "Stalin’s methods", but even mass executions will not help Kremlin leaders often demonstrate a complete disconnection from reality, and the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the russia, Dmitrii Medvedev, suffers from this in particular, constantly threatening with nuclear weapons for crossing the next red line.

The last of them was intended to assure russia’s citizens that "there is no reason to panic" and that everything is "under complete control", there is no shortage of weapons. And the key phrase was that in 2023 it is planned to produce 1.5 thousand tanks.

In particular, if compare the report from russia’s Ministry of Defense regarding the production of tanks in 2021, according to which russia’s Armed Forces received a total of about 500 units of armored vehicles, of them approximately half are tanks. That is, 250 units of new and modernized main battle tanks per year.

But russia switched its factories to a 24/7 mode, introduced norms that are close to war communism with 10-year terms for non-fulfillment of orders and "squeezing" the factory in the style of the 90s. And in these conditions, the industry is supposed to start producing a much larger amount of weapons, but it’s impossible, and as reported by russia’s Minister of Defense Shoigu himself: draconian methods led to only a 30% increase in the production of weapons and military equipment in 2022.

But even if russia increases the production comparing to 2021 is 60%, the number of tanks will increase to 400 vehicles. And now to understand the real pace of losses in russia: according to the reports of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as of January 25, the number of destroyed enemy tanks was 3,175, and as of March 24 it is 3,574 units. That is, it took 57 days to destroy a similar number of enemy tanks.

At the same time, for russia, even the figure of 400 tanks per year looks doubtful, even taking into account all possible accelerations and even with the removal of such tanks as the T-54 and T-55 from conservation. Overall, the production of new tanks at the Uralvagonzavod, which works at a 24/7 pace and involves prisoners in the production, is rather optimistically outlined at the level of 20 new tanks per month. That is, exactly 240 new tanks per year.

Regarding restoration, there is data that the repair capacity of the Uralvagonzavod is 8 vehicles per month, and three more russia’s armored repair plants can each restore up to 17 vehicles. But this data does not correlate with the announced current capabilities of the 103rd Armored Tank Repair Plant near Chita, which restores T-62s at a rate of about 7 tanks per month.

At the same time, restored vehicles are also those tanks that were damaged on the front line and were sent for repair, or simply have to undergo regular overhaul, which according to regulations is performed once every 14 thousand km (for the T-72 tank).

And all this without mentioning the fact that in russia, the new T-72B3 and T-80BVM are undergoing a simplified modernization. That in addition to tanks, there is another armored vehicle, and the combat capability of the machines must be maintained by the production of an astronomical number of engines, because the resource of the "boosted" B-92 for the T-72B3 is 1200 hours...

But it is unlikely that the Kremlin pays attention to this, as one more phrase of Medvedev makes it quite clear how exactly russia wants to work with armored plants. In particular, he noted that he started reading letters from the Second World War signed by Stalin to the directors of armored factories and wants to introduce their content to the directors of russian enterprises.

Thus, it remains only to wait until the Kremlin resumes the practice of mass executions for failure to fulfill the plan.

I’ll make 3 observations:

1. Management of such facilities will be under a huge threat, and I would suggest a fair number just up and disappear (leaving Russia).

2. With the manpower pool on the declining end, I would be curious how production progresses.

3. Finally, on quality products being delivered to the ‘front’, I doubt if these fresh new tanks will meet the general spec’s required.

The Rooskies have recently been sending 70 year old tanks to do battle in Ukraine. Stalin started their production after WW2.

“What is the maximum that The Kremlin can count on?”

12 tanks, a Lada Niva and an electric samovar.

Wow. Yeah, those are old. Many of them will probably be shot pretty quick with cheaper weapons.

As always, Russia is a land in which lies, propaganda, and wishful thinking are a large part of how its leadership and government conduct themselves.

In truth, Russian tank production and repair and trained tank crews are far short of combat losses. In addition to inadequate production of new tanks, Russian tanks that are still in use have barrels that are worn out and need to be relined or replaced, a time-consuming operation that can be done at only a single factory. Russian tank engines are also wearing out, with inadequate repair and replacements.

Moreover, due to sanctions, Russia lacks the electronic components needed for fully modern, NATO equivalent target finding and fire control mechanisms for its tanks. Thus Russian tanks are unable to match the all conditions, see everything, one shot, one kill capability of the modern NATO standard tanks that are now arriving in Ukraine.

How is this different from the USA?

Despite Russia running out of manpower, arms and munitions, it remains a moral imperative that we stop Russia in Ukraine because otherwise Russia would proceed to conquer all of NATO and occupy all of Europe. This is because Russia has developed the new Gen 5 Shovel and the West currently has no operational Anti-Shovel Defense System (ASDS). To be noted is that the Gen 5 shovel can be used in drone mode and requires no manpower, arms or ammunition. It is as unstoppable as a hypersonic missile.

I remember how, after Midway, everyone was saying that it was time for the US to stop fighting and to pack up and go home. With all their best ships sank and no prospect of replacing them any time soon, there was no longer a “moral imperative to stop” japan.

Where there two Battle(s) of Midway? We solidly kick Japan’s ass in the 1942 one.

Russian tanks hunting down hohos in the woods...

Even if some of you lying wankers were teling the truth and Russia WAS in fact refurbing T50 class tanks, that is all they'd need to hunt down and neutralize hohos hiding out in the woods.

==================================

In real life, Russia is building new T90M tanks and sending large numbers of such to Russian army units, refurbing T70 and T80 class tanks for their possible use in case of some sort of a nato invasion after hohostan collapses and possibly also for sale to other countries...

I'm not reading about tank battles in this conflict. I'd assume that most noto/hoho tanks that get killed are going to be killed by artillery, missiles, and air power. Hoho air defense has pretty much been eliminated at this point so that Russians are now able to fly close support missions.

Asa guy sitting in Poland who got his polski citizenship 6 years ago, I think Russia has destroyed its ability to be a threat for decades.

What I would like to end is the Muscowite imperialist mindset, that all of the lands east of the Oder belong yo the Kremlin.

It’s probably a symptom of the fact that they lost the cold war economically and their leaders were wise enough not to go for utter destruction.

This is similar to the imperial German generals in WW one quitting when they saw the writing on the wall. Thus saved Germany from destruction, but the people came up with fantasies about the “stab in the back”. Only after being utterly destroyed did the Germans (and the Japanese) give up their imperialist mindset.

Russians today need to give it up. I hope the losses in Ukraine wake them up before they destr6their own country.
