The owner of a Rivian R1S electric SUV was overjoyed to have his dream electric vehicle after waiting for years. But after owning the car for just days, it got stuck in the snow and immobilized by a safety feature, leading to a $2,100 bill to transport it to a repair facility.
Business Insider reports that a recent incident involving an owner of a Rivian R1S has forced the maker of the electric vehicles to examine its customer service more carefully and think about making changes to improve the user experience. The owner of an R1S truck, Chase Merrill, encountered a difficult situation when his electric SUV got stuck in deep snow and a safety feature rendered it immobile.

And, if you got stuck, at least you truck will run and keep you warm. And when a tow truck came, all he would have had to do was pull you out. Then you could drive on to your destination. His completely died. Digging him our did nothing but enable him to pay a $2,100 towing fee.
Thread winning post right there.
How do electrics handle all their torque in snow? It’d be like starting out in first gear with a supercharged 427 in snow…
I've said the same thing with every iteration of Windows...
I would think so for commercial purposes.
Just a posted notice to remind us all.
Dear FRiends, our 1st qtr FReepathon is running behind. It looks like we’re not going to hit our target, but with your help, maybe we can at least get it over 90%. 3/25/2023, 11:36:11 AM · by Jim Robinson
If you are dumb enough to buy any EV, then you are a certified fool and destined to be separated from your money.
Rivian RS1 - starting at $79,800. Costs a lot to get “taken for a ride”, eh?
Yes...the owner is a blooming idiot!
2.5 feet of snow. Really? I operate a 4WD 100HP tractor doing a part time retirement job.
My gut says even my rig would stuggle though that level of snow.
What an ass...
It won’t be long before the government (dems) starts offering tax credit for tow bills. And that starts the slippery slope to government funded and controlled mechanical insurance. Medicaid for your EV.
most full size trucks with real big tires will eventually get stuck in 2.5 feet of snow because the differential, and bumper plows it until it cant go anymore. thats why someone invented snow mobiles.
“after waiting for years”
My mother’s uncle in East Germany waited 10 years to get a Trabant. We really are becoming like the the old Soviet bloc.
Medicaid to the mentally handicapped is coming.,... scratch that.... mentally challenged.
I’d have turned around long before I was in 2.5 feet of snow. But I’m sensible and drive an ICE truck.
There's no way I would have bought an EV if I lived up north or if it was our only car.
Highway Thru Hell.

I live near the Hwy 3 that is occasionally featured on that show.
Yes the weather can be savage, turning the road into a chaotic mess in a matter of minutes.
I was kind of serious. If you were to put the right tires on one of those things I bet they would do quite well in the snow. People think because it’s all wheel drive they should be able to go, nothing could be further from the truth. My F350 is absolutely scary in the snow with all season tires. Put on good studded snows and 1000# of weight in the back and it’s a bulldozer.
