Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is recalibrating his strategy and messaging amid signs that his presidential ambitions may be faltering before his campaign even gets off the ground.
DeSantis began the year with clear momentum in the nascent GOP presidential primary, topping former President Trump in head-to-head polling and drawing unparalleled interest from Republican voters and operatives eager to see a fresh face at the helm of the party.
But there are signs that his momentum may be stalling: he’s faced weeks of relentless attacks from Trump and his allies, fellow Republicans have criticized him for dubbing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine “a territorial dispute” and some recent polls have shown his support in a hypothetical GOP primary slipping.
“I think for all the fanfare about DeSantis, there’s still a lot of stuff he needs to work on,” said one Republican strategist, who plans to back the Florida governor in the 2024 primary if he runs. “That’s normal when you’re exploring this kind of thing. But I think he needs to rethink things a little bit.”
To some degree, that already appears to be happening.

Regarding disrespect for the military,
I wonder what President Trump would have had to say about POWs
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
It is disingenuous to accuse someone of disrespect for the military for criticizing an individual who was/is in the military. And I feel certain President Trump would agree that the other POWs you mentioned were heroes BEFORE they were ever captured, and didn’t become so BECAUSE they were captured!
you need a better news source if you believe desantis is being led by the “gope”...
educate yourself...
your willful ignorance is on full display...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You are hopelessly burying your head in the sand if you can’t see who is funding and controlling DS’s messaging. It’s plain that you simply can’t
handle the truth.
You are currently in the first stage of grief. You will eventually progress to the rest of the stages. Give it time.....
The best chance is for DeSantis to say that he’s for everything Trump is for, except for the drama. But cozying up to the Bushies is not a winning strategy.
facts? We don’t need no steenkin’ facts!
Re: 214 - President Trump did not qualify his remarks as being confined to McCain - that’s a plain reading of his remarks. And regardless of what millions of other Conservatives believe, McCain is entitled to the respect of someone who was a POW. That does not mean he walks on water (e.g. Keating Five).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
McCain lost all respect with his actions as a politician. Respect is earned...and lost with actions.
Why would anyone listen to a “strategist” when most people are capable of using common sense and critical thinking skills. Imagine AOC as your strategist? DeSantis ain’t no dummy and doesn’t need some dopey, unemployed “strategist” what to say.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And yet here we are, witnessing the results of RDS doing just that...listening to strategists. Happens to them all. Trump had many whispering bad advice in his ear. If you learn from those mistakes, it makes you wiser. If not? It makes you a failure.
President Trump did not qualify his remarks as being confined to McCain - that’s a plain reading of his remarks. And regardless of what millions of other Conservatives believe, McCain is entitled to the respect of someone who was a POW.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
What you contend is the “plain reading of his remarks” is simply how you read them, not necessarily how others may do so. And as to the respect you say he’s entitled to because he was a POW, what exactly do you contend would be appropriate respect in regard to that entitlement.
We'll just disagree on those remarks are to be read.
"...what exactly do you contend would be appropriate respect in regard to that entitlement."
Don't make comments like this:
"I like people who weren’t captured.”
President Trump made a dig at someone because they were a POW. That's a bush league remark.
There needs to be some discernment about military service and subsequent service. But I expect we will disagree with this.
It's the same thing with Dan Crenshaw. I believe he's a squish on several issues, but I honor his service. Calling him "eyepatch McCain" dishonors his military service because he lost that eye in combat.
Oh grow up. He served. Military service is honorable.
He’s not “cozying up” to the Bushes.
He’s a product of the Bush Industrial Complex.
Then he’s DOA.
thank you for continuing to prove your willful ignorance...
your cooperation is greatly appreciated...
i have a life...
i don’t waste time playing around on the internet all day like you do...
you sound like bill clinton...
kinda expected a california man to seek permission before he does anything...
What is endlessly fascinating IS..they know what the base wants...they have to know it would be good for the country..and will play to the base..until they get elected.
Then it’s..screw you sucker.
I think it is sad DeSantis has let these fools ruin his future. That is why he already has flip flpped and made himself look like he says one thing to one crowd and something else to another. That is so typical GOPe.
Those idiots had him repeat McCain’s words to the letter. Geesh, I figure Ron was too little when McCain said those words to know what he was saying. He was just told to say it by some campaign hack.
you sound like bill clinton...
So how did you know it was me?
your forked tongue...
