Two people were killed and nine others were missing after a powerful explosion ripped through a chocolate factory in West Reading, Pa., on Friday, sending a plume of smoke into the air and shaking houses blocks away, officials said.
R.M. Palmer, founded in 1948, employs 850 people, according to its website, and is known for making seasonal chocolates, including hollow milk chocolate bunnies for Easter.
The explosion sent a column of debris, flames and dust shooting into the air, as shown in a video that was captured by weather cameras and shared on Twitter by a reporter for Fox 29 News in Philadelphia.
“Part of the building is leveled,” Ms. Kaag said in an interview on Friday evening from the scene. She said she had felt the explosion at her house, four or five blocks from the factory.
“I didn’t hear a boom,” she said. “I just felt it shake my house.”

The loss of life and hit to the community and local economy is tragic. Having said that it sounds like it could’ve been a lot worse.

If I were to read only the headline and comment, as is my right as a freeper of 25 years standing, on the horror of people being killed and, apparently, kidnapped by a chocolate factory, would I be so wrong?
I might be guilty of torturing the language with such a sentence, but is that worse than the headline writer?
Could be a sugar dust explosion
Or even chocolate dust.
There was an explosion in the Necco Wafer factory in Cambridge, Massachusetts (right next to the MIT campus) about 25 years ago, caused by sugar dust.

Why would they mention OSHA? Really you should relax your agenda a bit there. The explosion happened a couple hours ago and your blaming diversity and demanding OSHA be in the article?! You’re as bad the left after a shooting.
There was a report of a natural gas leak just before the explosion. Natural gas filling up a confined building = fuel-air explosive bomb.
