Looks like it took FIVE - not one.

If the vote on deciding a case is tied 4-4 and there are 9 votes, how many votes does it take to swing the vote 5-4 in one direction or the other? Hint: the answer is not 5.

It’s kinda like the ‘winning’ shot in basketball, just at the buzzer.

Sorry, but if the team’s FIRST shot had never gone in, they wouldn’t have won the game with a buzzer beater.
