The charitable foundation Save Ukraine that 17 children returned to Ukraine, all of whom were taken from the Kherson and Kharkiv regions during the Russian occupation of those territories. They were subsequently transferred either deeper into Russian-occupied territory or into Russia.
A Save Ukraine press release says that Russia refused to return the children to their parents after Ukraine liberated the Russian-occupied territories from which they had been removed. “Complex logistics, constant danger, [crossing] the line of fire and several borders, for many of their [parents], turned getting the children back into a huge task,” said the foundation.

A teenager, who was among the children returned to Ukraine, described the conditions the children lived under in Russia — he reported being subjected to corporal punishment and bad food.
He said the children in the Russian camp who professed support for Ukraine were beaten with “some kind of iron rod,” naming one employee who took part in the beatings — Astakhov. “He was responsible for security, but he imagined himself as, like, a king,” said the teen. He added:
They hit one girl on the back, she got a striped bruise. There was no normal food — we ran away to buy normal food. We were sitting in the assembly hall, and one of the children shouted “Glory to Ukraine!” Another answered “Glory to the Heroes,” and they were both taken away. I don’t know what happened to them.
He also said that staff at the camp lied to the children about the Ukrainian military’s liberation of Kherson, said their parents had given them up, and told the children that they would be transferred to a facility in Pskov, where Russian families would adopt them. The teenager says that when a parent called the camp’s director to ask why the children were told such things, the director responded, “You won’t get them back anyway, they will be Russian children.”

Bull crap. “Save Ukraine” was the name of the campaign Svoboda used in 2019 to defeat Zelinsky in 2019. It’s neo-Nazi all the way. And of course, the Russians kidnapped the children, and according to the story beat them with iron rods, and continually abused them. And then one day simply decided to just send them home to tell the story. This is probably as dishonest as that crying Kuwaiti girl talking about incubators. Even better, bet the kids were driven up to that site from 2 miles away. Fake

Most of these children were removed from the worse conditions by the Russians. In fact hundreds were returned, there is a commission in Russia to find whereabouts of their parents. The fact that Galicians made only one child lie about his conditions out of 17 they tried to coerce into it is telling.

The question is whether this might be purely manufactured propaganda, or whether some in Russia, and even at upper levels have decided they better make some effort to return kids so as to be able to have some favorable propaganda. Teens are old enough to remember things and report them, and may be credible witnesses in War Crimes trials. I’m sure there are oligarchs who don’t want to be forced to limit travel because they become connected with Putin’s charges, and also some in the child care branch who are worried that they could be charged like that woman in charge of all the child removal mess.

The problem Russia has is, this is the 21st century and it cannot guarantee that the Ukrainian kids in its “care” will become enthusiastic converts to Russification and disappear permanently from the digital world. Often the “adopting” parents are middle class. Often, they’ll have access to technology. Either Russia has to actually treat these kids well and guarantee their silence that way, or treat them like cattle and hope the truth doesn’t come out.
It’s not like fifty years ago where activity in a small town or village would be invisible even to a nearby population.
All it takes is for these “adopted” kids to Keep Schtum until they have an opportunity to tell their stories.

Denny Dimwit, please tell us all about how you bought into the Iraqi lies told by Bush and how many innocent lives were wasted - including those of our military - in that illegal invasion?
