Donald Trump’s defenders would love for people to believe that the former president entered into totally normal, by-the-book, run-of-the-mill legal agreements with adult film actress Stormy Daniels and Playboy model Karen McDougal to purchase their silence, and that he did so in a way that was agreeable and beneficial to all parties.
But that’s not what happened.
Trump risks indictment because, allegedly at his behest, an illegal scheme was undertaken to deceive the public at a critical moment before the 2016 election. That was the purpose of the “hush money” payments—not to enrich the women or settle a personal matter, but, in the words of the man who went to prison for arranging the deals, “for the principal purpose of influencing the election.”

Since Cohen’s attorney’s letter, revealed yesterday, shows that President Trump had no part in that, then this article is baseless accusations.
President Trump has always said this was extortion against a high profile public person, something that happens to them all the time. Iirc, he did have an occasion to be at some event, the same as this porn movie star and did meet her. He was in the tv business himself, so that isn’t unusual.
Because of photos in public, she used that as the basis for her extortion.
How do we know this is probably true? Because she and her lawyers both were silenced by cohen for 130 000 dollars, a paltry sum against a multi billionaire.
Had they had a real case they would have gone for the stars, but they knew asking too much would cause a legal fight. Therefore, they knew they’d lose their extortion bid.
Beating Hillary was crime enough for them.
What response from Senator Fetterman’s wisdom?
And as Levin said, it was an NDA not “hush money” which thousands of people sign all the time, nothing illegal about it.
She says, “illegal scheme.” I’ll wager she can in no way cite legal code.
Well Amanda, you can shove your article where the sun doesn’t shine. I’m positive that’s best you had in a long time. Your opinion doesn’t matter.
Can anyone pull up any articles she wrote about clinton paying Paula Jones $850k
How about the $17,000,000 in taxpayer money that Congress used to for HUSH MONEY?
==
and that was money paid for allegations of sexual harrassment/assault ie crimes
not consensual affairs
If an argument can be made that the payments would have been made to protect a personal or public reputation, regardless of whether Trump was running for President, then they are not illegal.
That is exactly what has been claimed for years.
PS - Stormy Daniels stated herself and through her lawyer in 2018 that the affair with Trump never happened. The media seems to have forgotten that.
Agree the entire deal sounds like a Cohen set up so he would have an ace to use down the pike to hustle Trump.
He’s a wretched maggot infested creature it’s why he’s a felon now.
What a stretch.
The author would have to have a rubber band for a brain to dream up that scenario.
This is a DJT hit piece.
Why is this on here?
Honestly quoting the Bulwark thought this site was better than quoting a bunch of wanna be Lincoln Project types. Trump should sue

To Whom It May Concern:
Over the past few weeks I have been asked countless times to comment on reports of an alleged sexual relationship I had with Donald Trump many, many, many years ago.
The fact of the matter is that each party to this alleged affair denied its existence in 2006,
20011,2016,2017 and now again in 2018.1 am not denying this affair because I was paid “hush money” as has been reported in overseas owned tabloids. I am denying this affair because it never happened.
I will have no further comment on this matter, Please feel free to check me out on Instagram at @thestormydaniels.
Stormy Daniels
Benny Johnson @bennyjohnson
NEVER FORGET: In 2018, Stormy Daniels said she never had an affair with Trump. In fact, she said it was all made up to get money.
Stormy lost her lawsuit against Trump and was ordered to pay him $300k for legal fees, and her creepy porn lawyer was sentenced to 14 years in prison
WHAT A CROCK OF DUNG!
Is there any mention of “statute of limitations” in the article?
How many ‘private lives’ did Billy *Bubba get?
The bullwark? That is where the Never Trump “ conservatives” after the Weekly Standard died
Not according to the current prosecutors. It is the basis of their case. FEC regulations be damned.
The stupid author of the bulwark - in addition to her wrongheaded arguments - fails to tell her readers that her own arguments are moot. There is a five year statute of limitations on acts that break federal campaign finance laws. Such acts occurring in 2016 ran past that limitation in 2021.
