Have you been to the Galleria, lately?
Scary place.
As is ever mall we’ve driven by, in surrounding areas.
Glad to hear Webster, TX is still a nice, mall supporting community.
We took a friend to a suburban (Houston) mall, last year, and, we couldn’t get out of there, soon enough.
That was the first time we’d even been to a mall, (other than the trip to Galleria) in years....and, last, most likely.
Which malls, in TX, are closing?
I’ve seen empty malls, as we drive by, but...they’re still hanging in there.
Nope. Never go there. High crime area. I try to stay out of Houston as much as possible.
Malls are too dangerous. “Youth” hang out there.
Youth is wasted on the young, but to your comment, it's the "troubled" youth that hang out there that I have a problem with.
Malls are still around?
Malls reached their pinnacle in the late 70’s and 80’s. The internet among other things. They spelled the ultimate doom of the business model
A victim of e-tail. I have not purchased shoes from a brick-and-mortar store in years. If you know what you want and your size just go on line for your purchase.
Now women’s shoes…. That’s a whole ‘nother story…..
Though I haven't been there in a decade or so, The Gardens Mall in Palm Beach Gardens seems to do great according to friends. Nordstrom, Saks, Macy's, Bloomingdales are all still chugging along, and the few vacant stores are apparently being renovated. The Sears there is even still open.
I take it there’s no public transportation in the vicinity of that mall.
It's a fairly upscale area with no ghetto areas around so I think that makes all the difference with a mall.
Trend will be for smaller malls nationwide to continue to close, leaving a smaller footprint of hub malls (I’m thinking Tysons Corner in VA and Garden State Plaza in NJ as two examples I know well), but the trend toward online shopping will continue to change retail and the days of spending the day at the mall are back in the 1970s-90s for more and more people.
We’ve got one near me that has changed hands a number of
times.
I walked through there the other day, and it was downright
depressing to see all the vacancies.
Some of the stores that were left were pretty suspect too.
Just not looking up to par.
Ditto!! :-)
Free standing? I wonder if they really mean free standing, as in a store not attached to any other stores, or if they'll locate in the new strip malls that seem to be attracting all the trendy stores these days.
I’m waiting for the WEF to buy up all of these deserted malls, on the cheap, so they can house folks who ‘will live there, and, be happy’.
I shouldn’t give them any ideas. 😱

How they’ve held out for this long is surprising…
