DeSantis' Ukraine u-turn: Florida Governor now says his 'territorial dispute' comments were 'mischaracterized', calls Putin a war criminal and says Russia is 'basically a gas station with a nuclear weapons'

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sought to clean up comments where he called Russia's brutal war on Ukraine a 'territorial dispute' after drawing rebukes against 'isolationism' but praise from Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

'Well, I think it's been mischaracterized. Obviously, Russia invaded — that was wrong. They invaded Crimea and took that in 2014 — That was wrong,' DeSantis told Piers Morgan in an interview more than a week after his initial comments.

He also rolled out tough talk against Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling him a 'war criminal' and saying he should be 'held accountable,' while dissing Russia as 'basically a gas station with a bunch of nuclear weapons' during a week when Putin huddled with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Moscow.

One site disputes her claims, but seeing the dates of the following two links, it becomes quite obvious that she indeed did not lock down.

What did he say that’s untrue? Russiais a 3rd rate power that will never fully concor Ukraine, and is no threat to us.

Yes, but others here will tell you Putin is Hitler and it’s 1939 all over again. You know, today Ukraine, tomorrow... Anyone that is against nuclear war with Russia is a Putin stooge.

President Trump/Rand Paul in 2024. Paul/Noem in 2028.

Another Fng neocon jackass in the making? I must say, remarkable coincidence that DeSantis ended up with the press secretary he has:

Christina Pushaw, Gov. Ron DeSantis’ Press Secretary, registered as a foreign agent who worked on behalf of a Ukrainian politician.

The controversial spokesperson provided paid consultation for Mikheil Saakashvili, former President of the Republic of Georgia, between October 2018 and October 2020, according to federal disclosures received Monday. The disclosures were first reported by The Washington Post.

Pushaw was hired as DeSantis’ Press Secretary in May 2021.

Wow.

“President Trump/Rand Paul in 2024. Paul/Noem in 2028.”

I’ll pass on Noem, at least for now, as she needs to figure out how to NOT answer to Big Money. Hopefully she can make that transition.

“hate to be picky but Russia gave us a run for our money during the cold war”

That was when it was the Soviet Union and had several captive nations to drawn man and brain power.

Now it has just Russia. Big drop off.

calling him a ‘war criminal’ and saying he should be ‘held accountable,’

As we used to say, “You and what army?”.

Where’s the guy who was the best governor during Covid?

Ricketts? He didn’t lockdown Nebraska, and Noem in SD.

DeSantis was wrong to call Russia a gas station with nukes. If he wants to be a statesman he won’t get far by sounding like... I don’t even know how to characterize it, but the man clearly needs to learn to be more diplomatic. The office of the presidency is largely about foreign policy.

In these crazy times, we're all looking for REAL, not programmed. Candidates at all levels should take note.

I agree with you. But the GOP establishment will burn the party to the ground before it ever lets Trump, or anyone like Trump, be seen as the head of the party again. It's over. The GOP will never win another national election. Going forward, it will prefer to lose a thousand elections than have a populist, even a faux one like Trump, win one.

Could be, but I think something else is in play here.

Let's look at the facts:

The GOPe is all in on this conflict, and they never complain about the border invasions along both our northern & southern borders now. No longer just the Southern border.

The GOPe hates Trump, because he is after the GOPe as much as he is the Democrats. Members of what is often referred to as the Uniparty.

The GOPe has been courting DeSantis to run for the presidency, and that is as obvious as Biden's dementia.

So, I think the GOPe made him flip, because he went rogue and gave his real honest opinion about the conflict, which of course, is diametrically opposed to the GOPe position on the conflict.

If looking too much like Trump was his consideration, then he obviously didn't think it through. Which puts in question his leadership ability, doesn't it?

For, it makes him look like he makes snap decisions and then changes his mind faster than some even digest his statement. 😋

Kristi Noem’s problem is that she’s answering to Big Globohomo Medical and thus supporting the transgender agenda.

Did DeSantis say that he wanted to continue endlessly bankrolling Ukraine? Saying that Putin’s invasion of Ukraine was wrong is just common sense - most Russians probably believe at this point that Putin’s invasion of Ukraine was idiotic.

Ron’s supposed to be the antiTump, the cool, level heard politician.

The rope a dope thing is Trump’s game and home field advantage.

This makes him look like Jeb.
