Russia's president Vladimir Putin, 70, is taking tanks as old as he is out of storage in his desperate bid to crush Ukraine on the battlefield.
A video showing long obsolete Soviet-era T-54B and T-55A tanks - designed to be used in the armies of Soviet tyrant Josef Stalin - on a train carried across Russia, presumably destined for the frontlines of the war, has emerged.
It comes with Putin having already raided museums and storage depots for retired T-62 battle tanks, which halted production 12 years ago.
The geriatric T-54 was originally produced by Stalin after the Second World War in 1946, but Putin seems to be sending to war an updated version from the early 1950s - some 70 years old, the same age as the dictator.
Putin is fond of boasting of the prowess of his military capabilities. However, since his forces crossed the border into Ukraine over a year ago, his armies have been exposed as being outdated both tactically and in terms of equipment.

Why go against all the advanced countries of the world and your best and most important customers?
The Russians and Ukrainians are both using American WWII tank doctrine where tanks are used to attack infantry, equipment, vehicles and fixed positions and to be used as mobile artillery.
Anti tank weapons and drones are the threat the tanks face most.
In this kind of war fighting, even the updated T-55 tanks are pretty darn effective. Especially since the tanks are being positioned as far back as from the front lines as possible. The Russians reputedly have huge ammo stock piles for them.
Weight of fire against largely static targets is what is driving the battlefield in Ukraine at the moment so the ability to lay a lot of munitions on target is the coin of the realm and the T-55 does this job very satisfactorily. .
Modern tanks have ammo inventories with much of the stockpiles of cannon rounds optimized for tank to tank duels so, while a high velocity sabot round may be the hot ticket pierce modern tank armor, it's not nearly as effective against infantry and buildings as old school HE and anti personnel ammo.
The old school T-55 has ammo stockpiles well suited to the conflict in Ukraine at the moments. Would not like to go up against an M1 or Leapord in a T-55, but a T-55 crew is no more vulnerable than the crew of a T-90 to a Javelin - if they take a hit, both are going to have a bad day. And they are expendable.

- several months of fighting
- tens of thousands of Russians dead,
- a massive chunk of talented, educated western Russian people getting as far away from Russia as possible
- mobilising the skilled workforces only to throw them into a meat grinder
- convincing hundreds of thousands of once pro-Russian Ukrainians that Russia is their enemy
- empowering two private armies (Kadyrov’s and Prighozin’s) to lord it over the Russian official armed forces
- pissing off the entire CSTO by robbing its talent to fuel the meat grinder
- bending over for a Xi cornholing this week, effectively pledging to be China’s gas station in return for... nothing much
He gets to claim victory over a small town after pulverising it to rubble for months.
Vladimir, you have won - tens of thousands of square miles of minefields, several thousand completely abandoned and razed villages and towns, a couple of cities also flattened into rubble, enough corpses to fill an olympic stadium, and a reconstruction bill so big that to do anything useful with the land you just “won”, Russia would be on the verge of bankruptcy.
Putin isn’t just mad, he’s utterly, utterly retarded.
As is anyone who thinks finally being able to control those two signs, after the stagggering cost Russia has incurred on kit, cadavers and international condemnation to win them, and thinks Russia “won” anything worth fighting for.
