On Sunday, many noted that Florida’s Ron DeSantis had yet to speak up about the news that Manhattan’s hard-left DA Alvin Bragg planned to indict Trump, possibly as early as tomorrow. That changed, with DeSantis making a masterful statement that attacked both the left and Donald Trump—and that succeeded in getting Trump to post a comment that is a giant, self-inflicted wound.
Yesterday, I mentioned DeSantis’s silence as part of a post that focused on Vivek Ramaswamy, the only Republican candidate (or presumed candidate) to speak to the larger principles at issue here. Others said nothing or hewed to the usual picayune political platitudes. However, during a press conference today, and in response to a specific question about the possible Trump indictment, Ron DeSantis finally had his say about the news, and he hit it out of the park.
In three minutes, DeSantis addressed the malevolence of Soros prosecutors, the legal principles at issue, and his own admirable record. He also threw in an attack against Trump that succeeded in triggering one of Trump’s famously self-harming counterattacks.

I’ve been thinking DeSantis has a future as the next “trump, without the unforced errors.” Then he goes out and commits a whopper. Bad judgment. Bad look.

The Trumpians here at FR have gone ape bleep over the pron star hush money comment while ignoring the real message of support from DeSantis.
And they also ignore the nasty retort from Trump suggesting DeSantis might be a homo and a pedo predator.

Trump posted on Truth Social, sharing a link to a MeidasTouch story about DeSantis partying with underage girls.
Trump very much did such a thing. Of course he phrased it as a potential future false accusation, so there's always some room for disputing interpretation, but this has been exactly Trump from the get go. There's no reason to pretend that it isn't any more.
I'd also like to add, that this was a rather sophisticated act of trash talking. The real insult to DeSantis isn't that he's going to be accused of a secret gay love life, but that he's not in the same league as Trump is, and once he is finally at Trump's level, they'll be fighting it together because this type of stuff goes with the territory.
You may land a blow on Trump while trash talking, or think you land a blow, but you'll never win in the long run because he has been doing it so long at such a high level, and he cares more about winning a verbal battle than anyone on the planet.

Those seem like key words in Trump’s statement.
But some just seem to skip over those..
It’s not disputable that Trump and Stormy Daniels did in fact enter into an NDA under whihch he paid her. Or technically, Cohen paid her and Trump paid Cohen.
Whether the affair occurred, I do not know. Trump denies it, and Daniels has denied it in the past. But he did pay her, and she is a (former) porn star.
Tehre is no crime there. NDAs happen all the time.

President Trump’s response to Desantis was a response based on wisdom and experience. Two qualities Desantis is completely lacking at this point in time.

It was a great statement by Governor DeSantis.
What error did he commit? Taht was a nearly perfect statement.
