Kevin McCarthy calls for calm after Trump tells backers to ‘protest’ possible arrest

House Republicans at their annual retreat in Orlando called for calmer heads to prevail in response to Donald Trump’s calls for supporters to “protest, take our nation back” over his claims that he will be arrested on Tuesday.

The tamp-down of Trump’s rhetoric came as the former president lashed out at his former “fixer” Michael Cohen to discredit his testimony to a Manhattan grand jury.

“I don’t think people should protest this, no,” House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) told reporters Sunday night when asked about Trump’s weekend postings.

“And I think President Trump, if you talk to him, he doesn’t believe that either.”

The House speaker suggested that Trump was trying to “educate people about what’s going on.”

They people showing up to protest are a progressive from the upper west side wearing a MAGA hat and a unemployed welfare loser from Newark NJ trying to make us look bad.

How do you protest an indictment that hasn’t even been filed yet??? This entire affair is such nonsense.

I have a feeling Trump said what he said, no the shake us up. But to shake up the congressional GOP.

You see...if we protest and for whatever reason it gets a little rowdy...

The GOP loses power incrementally with the base.

Sorry but I don’t believe there is anything that can shake up the moribund congressional GOP.

Sadly, you are correct. Republicans are always looking to "cross the aisle" and be on friendly terms with their Democrat counterparts, even if those Democrats are hellbent on destroying our nation and our culture.

The J6 event is a classic example of how our side is so easily cowed into submission. The Democrats knew full well that all they had to do was send in a few of their agitators to incite a riot and all the Republicans daring to contest the stolen election would condemn the "rioters", abandon the contesting of the stolen election, and scatter like coackroaches, leaving whoever was gullible enough to enter the Capitol building to rot in jail.

One thing I have to concede to the Left is they know how to fight and they know how to win for keeps. The Republicans are no match for them.

I have no idea why Trump said what he said. Protests aren't going to do a single thing to prevent his indictment or fight these BS charges in court. High-powered, highly competent attorneys are what's needed, and Trump can afford an army of them. The rumored charges are nonsense and good lawyers will get the charges laughed out of any reasonable court. But supporters of Trump who get arrested and jailed don't have access to those attorneys - some public defender who may or may not agree with the First Amendment will be assigned.

“THE FAR & AWAY LEADING REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE & FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, WILL BE ARRESTED ON TUESDAY OF NEXT WEEK. PROTEST, TAKE OUR NATION BACK!” Trump said in an all-caps message Saturday morning.

Trump sounds deranged imo. His ego is off the charts.

All they have to do is claim they are Antifa or BLM deciding to protest the arrest and not a thing will be done against them.

why shouldn’t we protest? all the antifa, blm violence and the pushback on J6 is meant to take away our right to peaceably assemble. did we gather for Mueller - for Impeachment 1 - or Impeachment 2 - for the Ukraine call - for the Mar-a-Lago outrage? which means when we do show up, we are serious. and i think that political prose- perse-cutions at the hands of the government are worth a constitutional protest.

The liberals and their Media minions have now painted First Amendment protesting by patriots as insurrectionists while Antifa thugs burning down businesses are excused as a mostly peaceful exercise of justified anger. And Republicans are falling into their trap by writing off protesting as strictly verboten.

Well, you are entitled to your opinion. But if you formulated it based on that statement, I’m curious where you were during his 4 years of being the best president this country ever saw? That is Trump being Trump. It’s nothing new.

Second, name me one billionaire who’s ego isn’t off the charts? lol....

*************

That is sadly true. As much as it pains me to say this, the fact of the matter is...those with the strongest will to win usually do. Democrats are committed to achieving their goals. Republicans are just not fighters.

Trump was a fighter and he highlighted just how weak and feckless the GOP really is. For that, most in the party despised him and were quite happy to see him go.

I view the GOP as a fake party. There is a very small handful of people in the party (at the national level) who push back against the Dems but they are an insignificant percentage of the party as a whole. Its like having an army that refuses to fight.

People now conflate the word protest with violence because the left always use violent protest.

Protest is not necessarily violent. Ghandi knew this.

Protest is important. Yet I sense that one of the main purposes of this entire fiasco is to frame up another group of people.
