I recently retired from a 46 year career in medicine. I worked in a lot of ER’s, both urban and rural. In the past 10 years they all became “immediate” care centers for people on Medicaid, homeless drug-addled bums, and illegals. I quit working ER’s and went back to Family Practice. I have no desire to ever work an ER again even though I loved it when it was “real” emergencies.
I wouldn’t step foot in Kaiser west la urgent care or ER unless I had one foot in the grave they are both terrible
But the illegals get the finest care.

Seems like they forgot the Hippocratic Oath!

3 Years ago, I had some scans, and they did a urine test and blood tests.
On the 30 minute drive home, my wife’s cell phone got an all clear on all tests, and they had an appt., the next day for me to have an aorta stent put in. The stent was installed the next day, and I was heading home after lunch.
On the way home, my wife’s cell phone got a call re me having a cystoscope 2 mornings later. My wife confirmed the appt. and 2 days later post cysto, I was sent home with my wife driving.

A woman who asked not to be named told DailyMail.com that she rushed her mother to the Mount Sinai Hospital on Madison Avenue on March 8 because she suspected the 67-year-old was having a stroke.
This was ruled out by a CAT scan carried out within 10 minutes. But then a nightmarish day for the cancer sufferer and her daughter began as they were left waiting in the ER ward in limbo, desperate to find out what was wrong.
‘Every corner was filled with people,’ she said, describing trash littering the floor, urine pots used by male patients kicked over and homeless people seeking treatment but totally ignored by staff.
It comes amid patient backlogs and staffing shortages after the pandemic that have stretched New York hospitals to breaking point and sparked strikes by nurses.

It sure does, and a lot less chance of catching a Virus or Bacteria with hair on its chest while waiting around in hospital waiting rooms or an ER.

You absolutely can sign out AMA. However certain insurances and Medicare plans won’t pay for the visit if you do.
Usually you can tell the people you want to discharge and they will get your paperwork together Pronto. But you do have to let them know you want to go.
