Siberia is up for grabs as Putin becomes China's vassal
msn.com ^ | 18 March 2023 | Matthew Henderson

Xi Jinping has a clearly-articulated view of the strategic rise of China.

By 2049, Xi says, China will have become the dominant world power, once more enjoying the superior military, economic, political and cultural status that was usurped by Western imperialism in the 19th century.

Since Xi’s rise to power, all his actions, at home and overseas, have focused on achieving this objective. His vision does not include a relationship with Russia as a peer, and never will.

Ultimately, Xi Jinping needs only energy from Putin. Even though Beijing can bargain the price down, they will be buying such vast quantities that Russian dependency on their market is assured, and the asymmetric relationship maintained. Beijing is also seeking to sanction-proof its own economy.

Guaranteed access to Siberia’s almost limitless resources, particularly of gas, would greatly help it to do so. Putin is already diverting gas destined for the European market to pipelines stretching across taiga and steppe to China’s northern border.

The most likely outcome is that by degrees a war-drained Russia will fall prey to overwhelming PRC influence – a strategic transformation for which the free world would be wise to prepare.

Not true. Russia will not hesitate to use nuclear weapons to protect their territory.

That doesn’t make it untrue.

Russia wouldn’t start nuking the Chinese army unless they were attacking, which means a war is engaged, and not one that would necessarily stop just because Russia used some nukes.

China extracts (a better word than produces) about 4.7 million barrels per day from domestic oil fields. Theirs have been pumping for going on 80 years. Terminal decline.

So domestic production 4.7 mbps. Domestic consumption 15ish mbps. Russia pumps 11 mbps and consumes only 3 mbpd.

I can assure you, since oil is everything, China will remain the junior, not senior, partner.

That is, if they have even maintained their nuclear weapons. Looking at Russian maintenance of other weaponry, this is in doubt.

Russia doesn’t have a succession plan in place post Putin. Unlike the Chinese. So it may implode into warring parts.

Finally China may be content to just be de facto ruler rather than de jure

Oil is not everything. Otherwise Venezuela and Saudi Arabia would be world leaders.

Russia is purely an extraction state

Welcome to the vassal club.

Siberia is up for grabs as Putin becomes China's vassal

The U.S. is up for grabs as Biden becomes China's vassal.

The MSM and Deep State in DC are the biggest enablers of the Russian-Chinese alliance ever and they now cry wolf.
There was no even significant trade between Russia and China 10 years ago.

Regarding vassalage, do you see anything Russia is doing on Chinese bidding?

If China only wants raw materials from Russia, why shouldn’t Russia grant it?

What the West wants from Russia?

They absolutely do.

Who will replace Putin? The answer is. No one in knows. If Putin named a successor, his rule would be threatened by his successor. So why would he name one in the first place?

It's kind of like the Roman Empire. You had powerful men assassinating the Emperor because they wanted to seize power in Rome.

Russia is purely an extraction state

And right now, China has them "over a barrel", litterally. Assuming the buyer is the "junior partner" is a fundamental misunderstanding of capitalism.

The most likely outcome is...

So the author is speculating. The Internet seems to be full of pundits predicting the future.

If we cut off Chinese commerce, I suspect that will throw a monkey wrench in to Xi’s plans. Isolate China like we do North Korea, let’s see how long Xi lasts.

Come to the consumer store near you and find a thing that is not Chinese.
If your policy is implemented, the US is going to be in a stone age in two years, and China is going to have a governor in DC.

Venezuela doesn’t produce. Yet. PetroChina and Rosneft are incrementally addressing that.

KSA has 40 million people and only 60% are citizens. They ship in Bangladeshis and Pakistanis to work the oil fields and provide the native population with lives of leisure. They extract 11 million bpd and consume . . . an amazing amount for just 40 million. They are on the verge of surpassing Japan.

And since oil is everything, there’s not much doubt they have lives of considerably more luxury than Japan with 3-4X the population.

Best, always, to measure wealth in joules. Not dollars. Dollars are created from thin air by central banks. Joules are created by God.

There is no capitalism. Capitalism is defined by creating money from thin air by central banks.

Oil is joules, created by God.

Measure wealth only in joules. Everything else is merely the imagination of counterparties.
