The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has officially changed its mission statement, dropping a quote from former President Lincoln because it used male pronouns and was viewed by some as excluding women.
On Thursday, the VA announced that its new motto is, "To fulfill President Lincoln's promise to care for those who have served in our nation’s military and for their families, caregivers, and survivors."
The new statement replaces the original 1959 mission statement which featured a quote from Lincoln's second inaugural address, delivered in 1865, "To care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow, and his orphan."
In a news release, the VA indicated that Lincoln's words were insufficient because they did not include women veterans, as well as veteran families, caregivers and survivors. The new statement was crafted in consultation with roughly 30,000 veterans who were surveyed, a diverse group that included men and women of every age group, LGBTQ+ veterans, and White, Black, Latino, Asian and Native American veterans.

Sigh - those who think men can be women are now upset that standard terminology where “Man” meant “Men and Women”, are now upset that ignorance has taken over and women aren’t mentioned specifically - even though “woman” now includes “man” - ironic...
I tend to agree with your statement. At the local clinic I’ve seen only one woman out of probably hundreds of old men. The old men are the Vietnam vets, of which include a very limited number of females. Younger vets are there from the sandbox wars, but they are men.
What I’ve found bothersome is some of their forms ask for a person’s pronoun. Also they continue to mandate those stupid covid masks while in the building.
The VA medical system and Vet Centers are separate entities. They are the facilities that treat women’s PTSD. And I’ve only seen a couple at our center. They are primarily treated for in-service rape, which does occur.
Narrow minded stupidity. Must every single pronoun be included to make this historic quote acceptable? How many pronouns are there? At least 15?
I think they should care for the pets of veterans as well. How about all the hookers who congregate around military bases, they should be cared for as well.
I don’t know much about PTSD. Learned some things of late. One being, the vast majority of women PTSD is from sexual assault. I am not wording that as rape only because the VA words it that way, and there may be a difference.
Given that we can’t reach recruiting goals because of fat and stupid issues, it would be insane not to seek women for recruitment so we will absolutely see more of them at the VA.
I read thru the employment credential requirements for VA docs. It is a surprising read. The key item I most recall was something saying under no circumstances will a physician be hired for a geographic area that is difficult to staff if all minimum credentials are not met. Rather, veterans in that region will be transported elsewhere at VA expense if staffing is inadequate.
So far, I have no complaints about VA healthcare. I spent time comparing reviews of VA Medical Centers vs big hospitals in the same area. Both get praised and both get trashed. I didn’t take a formal count, but a general impression is the VA gets dinged for long waits on phone queues and the big civilian places are hammered long waits once actually at the hospital.
Let me see, at what point since women actively served in the U.S. military, were U.S. military women “offended” by the VA motto that came from a quote of President Lincoln.???
Never. The idea that it was seen as offensive to women is a totally woke idea. U.S. military women KNEW the quote applied equally to them.

I’m one of those. The VA hospital closest to my residence is 270 miles away. The closest clinic is 90 miles away. Next week I have a civilian facility appointment 90 miles away. Next month 200 miles away. They pay for all, including mileage for driving. Getting the appointments is relatively fast.
Getting PTSD payments is not as easy as FR members seem to think. I know a guy that made it up, went to hours of therapy to convince the VA he had PTSD. then took the PTSD evaluation and flunked big time. He appealed and lost. I’ve taken the exam myself and there are bullshit detector questions in there that will tell if you are faking it. And the examiner can tell by your body language if you have PTSD or not. So it’s not a walk in the park like many think.
I worked for the air force as a civilian for a number of years and had girls as co-workers and trainees. The college grads are the only touchy-feely ones that will complain about anything and everything. The HS grad girls are great co-workers, they want to work and learn and are dedicated.
In Vietnam there were “shake-n-bakes”, or college grads promoted to E6 and sent into combat. Experienced E3, E4 & E5’s knew their job because they had experience. The new E6’s were just a huge hazard because they had no idea what they were doing. The lucky ones were reduced in rank. The unlucky ones were shot in the back (or so I heard). These new woke gender switchers will likely get the same treatment if they go to war.
I recently received a call from the VA where I was asked what my sexual preference was.

It is my general impression that the VA doesn’t hand out money without state of the art testing. There are a zillion law firms out there who make money by coaching veterans through the process, knowing the process will require 3-6 months, and pay is backdated to initial date of filing. They collect the back pay and the veteran collects full monthly from then on.
The lawfirms never coach cheating. They would never risk their membership in their state’s Bar for the $30,000 in play. But the lawfirms do know the process and if a veteran has a service connected injury, they will coach how to prove it.
PTSD is 100% territory. $50K/yr tax free. Desirable, but nearly impossible to cheat. I think what happens is the general population does not understand “service connected” does not mean “combat connected”. Guys who were standing next to their buddy who burned to death in a fire while fueling up an airplane absolutely has service connected PTSD.
But the general population asks him . . . where did you see combat, and he says he never did, and they imagine scam.
Not a scam. A guy who sees a buddy burn or sees a buddy fall off a training tower and get impaled on something or whatever of that sort . . . is legit. And of course the ladies and sexual assault.
Don’t have to be combat to be legit.
The guy I mentioned that tried to cheat the system on PTSD and lost hired an attorney for the appeal and lost again. He still has legal fees to pay. I think it’s monthly payments.
For my claims I used a state certified American Legion rep to process claims simply because they are trained and above all experienced. This guy that tried to cheat the system was turned down by the certified people who said his claim was baseless. So he went to a new upstart outfit called Step Up, conned them into doing his claim and lost.
Once he dreamed up the scam this guy’s stressor was he saw a scud missile fly over his noncombatant camp. He said he had nightmares, woke up in the sweats, etc. He started acting out in public by purposely bumping into other cars to start a fight, being mouthy in restaurants etc, thinking a major symptom of PTSD was aggression, something he got from the leftist media as their excuse for banning guns from PTSD people.
This guy really pissed me off, for my brother, a two tour infantryman, had PTSD before it was clearly recognized and never got jack for it.

There may be some details missing. Law firms have to be VA certified. It’s not just generically passing the bar exam that allows them to represent vets.
Nearly all of them get paid from the backpay accumulation from date of file to date of award. Typical 6 months, so they specify pretty much that amount as their fee, and they don’t take a case that will never have backpay because it will be refused. Demanding monthly payments from a guy not working just generates a bankrupcy and they still don’t get paid.
Most of the firms I have seen will say this about midway through their pitch. “Don’t imagine symptoms. Don’t fake anything. The VA examination process will expose that. There are very few items that don’t involve physical testing and bloodwork. You can’t fake that, so don’t waste your own time and anyone else’s.”
