How a warrant for Putin puts new spin on Xi visit to Russia

WASHINGTON (AP) — Chinese President Xi Jinping’s plans to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow next week highlighted China’s aspirations for a greater role on the world stage. But they also revealed the perils of global diplomacy: Hours after Friday's announcement of the trip, an international arrest warrant was issued for Putin on war crimes charges, taking at least some wind out of the sails of China's big reveal.

U.S. President Joe Biden said Friday he believes the decision by the International Criminal Court in The Hague to charge Putin was “justified.” Speaking to reporters as he left the White House for his Delaware home, he said Putin “clearly committed war crimes.”

While the U.S. does not recognize the court, Biden said it “makes a very strong point” to call out the Russian leader for his actions in ordering the invasion of Ukraine.

Other U.S. officials privately expressed satisfaction that an international body had agreed with Washington’s assessment that Russia has committed war crimes and crimes against humanity in Ukraine.

Asked about the Xi-Putin meeting, Biden said, “Well, we’ll see when that meeting takes place.”

The Biden administration believes China's desire to be seen as a broker for peace between Russia and Ukraine may be viewed more critically now that Putin is officially a war crime suspect, according to two U.S. officials. The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the matter publicly, said the administration hopes the warrants will help mobilize heretofore neutral countries to weigh in on the conflict.

Why is there not a !warrant out for joe Biden? After all he sent a drone that blew up a bunch of innocent children in retaliation for the suicide bomber in Kabul

What if Putin and Trump were “arrested” on the same day?

Hollow virtue signalling. Neither the United States, nor Russia, nor China recognize the jurisdiction of the ICC.

People mind once you accept the premise That their law is superior and binding on you , and is in effect for you; they own you.

A wise ruler would ensure that some of these bold rabbits on the ICC turned up "missing".

Along with their families.

Unrestrained, these ICC thugs are exactly like their American thug counterparts, who are going after President Trump.

Of course, your intoxication with Mistress Chrystia's boot leather prevents you from seeing the obvious, Chummy-boy.

I'm curious - does Mistress Chrystia keep you in a box in the basement like The Gimp in Pulp Fiction?

Putin will be pledging fealty, making Russia once again a satrapy of the Great Kahn.

The EU takes the ICC seriously, so the war crime charges put Europe and EU friendly venues off limits as potential sanctuaries in exile for Putin. That puts comfortable, favored Russian enclaves in Switzerland, France, Spain, and Cyprus off limits for Putin. In addition, the formal charges embed the captive Ukrainian children and other war crime and human rights issues into any potential peace deal.

In a broader sense, the charges also mark Putin as a target for liquidation by potential Russian coup plotters instead of being sent into internal or external exile. With Putin now formally a problem, Stalin's maxim comes into play: “When there's a person, there's a problem. When there's no person, there's no problem.”

I suggest another approach: to make it a precedent.
There was a case in Syria where USAF bombed a dam over the river with 70,000 people downstream, which by luck failed to detonate.
That’s attempted mass murder and everybody involved from armorer to a commanding officer is known.
What optics do you think their impaling on stacks in Iran is going to produce for the prestige of the US?
Putting Obama on stake over this and over crimes would be a topping on a cake.

War has a moral and legal logic that makes the reasoning of ordinary criminal law inapplicable. And, as it was, the dam did not fail.

Exactly! Hollow virtue signalling is how human chihuahuas bark at big dogs. And you can add Belarus, Turkey and even Ukraine to the list of nations who've never recognized ICC jurisdiction. The little yap dogs can't bite, but The Hague is a very noisy kennel.

Removing children from the war zone is more reasonable than the attempted murder of 70,000 innocent people, which is still a crime regardless the consequences. Especially in the blatantly illegal war because there is no ground for the US of being anywhere in Syria.
There are multiple other cases like this where bombs explode.
Both Bushes and Obama killed 11 million between them.

The Ukrainian children were forcibly kidnapped by Russia and not turned over to the Ukrainian authorities. Reliable reports indicate that the children are now being Russified in order to provide replacements for Russian population losses under Putin.

Attacking the terrorists of ISIS was a valid basis for the US being in Syria. What was Russia's basis for being there and bombing civilians rebelling against the Assad regime? And just what is Russia's basis for attacking Ukraine, including the terror bombings of civilian targets?

It would be like trying to arrest Tony Montana with nuclear weapons.

I suspect that’s the Left’s fever dream, if not the actual plan. They will do anything to push the “Trump is Putin” lying narrative.

Those in the asylums were moved as they are because there was no authority to agree on it, others were handed by the parents to keep them from harms way. It is a normal practice during war time. And what is “Russification”? Of course they stop getting idiotic propaganda that Hitler was liberator and that Russia is Mordor without indoor plumbing that needs to be destroyed. They see the opposite by their own eyes, whereas their siblings coming to Europe are forced to live in the streets and trafficed into prostitution.

“Assad regime” is a legit Syrian government, recognized by the UN. It is responsible for law enforcement in the country and choosing partners in doing so, not the self-appointed occupying force which took over an oil-rich part and stealing oil on top of that.

What is your take on Russia and China taking over the US to help BLM against police violence?

Your understanding of legalities is on par with school bully.
