Top Republicans bash DeSantis for calling Ukraine war a territorial dispute: 'Obviously, he doesn't deal with foreign policy'

The Republican Party is once again in a war of words with itself over the war in Ukraine — this time because of Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida.

In a statement submitted to Tucker Carlson's Fox News show, DeSantis said that the war in Ukraine was not among the United States' "many vital national interests," adding that "becoming further entangled in a territorial dispute between Ukraine and Russia is not one of them."

"The Biden administration's virtual 'blank check' funding of this conflict for 'as long as it takes,' without any defined objectives or accountability, distracts from our country's most pressing challenges," said DeSantis.

That statement is the clearest statement yet by DeSantis of the approach he would take to Ukraine ahead of an expected 2024 presidential campaign, despite previously expressing support for aid to the country.

His comments quickly elicited pushback from other Republicans, both for his characterization of the conflict as a "territorial dispute" and for suggesting that defending Ukraine is not a vital national interest.

"Well, it's not a territorial dispute in the sense that any more than it would be a territorial dispute if the United States decided that it wanted to invade Canada or take over the Bahamas," said Republican Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida on conservative commentator Hugh Hewitt's radio show, according to a transcript. "Just because someone claims something doesn't mean it belongs to them. This is an invasion."

Rubio went on to say that "foreign policy is about nuance" while taking pains not to criticize DeSantis directly.

Graham and Little Marco are isolated politically and so far no other elected REPUBLICAN politicians ar coming to their rescue.

I haven't even heard a peep out of R Rep McCaul since DeSantis spoke on the matter.

Either DeSantis or Trump will be out nominee and lead the party in 2024. These scumbucket neocons have been kicked to the curb.

Top Republicans obviously cannot even deal with supporting their own party. I’ll take DeSantis for 1,000 and flush the RINO slime.

Or he's not a globalist or brought and paid for whore. Or he's lying, which I hope he isn't.

Rubio would get his ass kicked on the issue by Tucker.

That war will probably be over by election day anyway.

Trump still gets my vote in the Primary (and either one gets my vote in November), but DeSantis just LEGITIMATIZED Trump’s position on Ukraine - and other than the psychos like Linda, Rubio, and Cruz, it’s going to REALLY TOUGH to for them to continue their support for Biden’s WW3 policy.

“These scumbucket neocons [NEED TO BE] kicked to the curb.”

Amen to THAT!

However, DeSantis IS going to prove to be as much of a RINO/One Worlder/Globalist/Stooge as so many who have come before him. (My own Wisconsin Governor, Scott Walker, for example.)

DeSantis is already taking their money. He’ll dance to their tune.

Hope I’m wrong. However, America NEEDS another round of President in Exile Trump!

I have to laugh at these ass clown RINOs. What exactly are their foreign policy successes? When was the last time they won a war? They are so eff’n myopic in supporting the military industrial complex that they don’t learn from their mistakes.

DeSantis is smart and (heaven forbid) logical.

When we started sending billions to Ukraine, I called my (Dem) senator’s office and asked why so much money for Ukraine while cutting food benefits for American families put out of work by lockdowns. They promised to call me back. But they never did

Whether intended or not, it was great service to Trump.

It shows the GOP is NOT split on the issue of Ukraine. We are united.

And there’s a few isolated nutjobs that need to get with the program or GTF out. Go back to the Democrat party from whence they came.

Marco and Graham are simply long-term middling Republicans.

DeSantis and Trump are the incoming and outgoing ‘top’ Republicans.

“DeSantis is already taking their money. He’ll dance to their tune.”

And THERE is the problem.

Trump still has FU money; RDS doesn’t.

This feels like a misstep from his PR campaign.

I don’t mind that he’s against the Ukraine conflict (and our involvement in it) but his justification is blatantly wrong on the ideology.
