These revealing photographs show shop shelves in a provincial Russian city groaning under piles of fresh food.
As British supermarkets ration eggs and an array of fruit and vegetables amid shortages provoked in large part by the Ukraine war, no such hardships afflict Vladimir Putin's citizens.
The pictures were taken at a food hall, two superstores and a corner shop in Perm, a city with a population the size of Birmingham in the Ural mountains, a 24-hour drive from Moscow. The images suggest the West's much-vaunted sanctions on Russia, imposed to punish President Putin for his invasion, are not having a deep bite.
What's more, the scenes are a reversal of 40 years ago, when many of us watched pitiful TV footage of Russians under the Communist regime queuing for staples such as bread and eggs.
Now it's Britain's turn to suffer. Supermarkets here are rationing tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and lettuces as UK farmers struggle with higher energy costs which stop them using hothouses in winter to grow them. Soft fruit, including raspberries, are also hard to find in the shops.

Figures, plus they have their allies India and China helping them while also undermining us with cheap labor and cheap products. We’re the loser here with a bad hand held by Biden. A president with balls would cut off India and China until they cut off Russia. Instead, we are funding both sides of the war even while we shouldn’t be involved in it at all.
And this is just Russia, a country that mostly trades with China and the EU, and still Biden was acting like so many of our economic problems are the “Putin price hike.”
Imagine how much the average American would be hit by Chinese sanctions.

With the US claiming that a bunch of Ukrainian SCUBA Divers somehow located and then blew up at least 3 of the 4 Nordstream Pipelines, using the necessary 500 lbs. of explosives on each, The Duran is now speculating that Ukraine is in the process of being written off by the Neocons, so that they can get to work on China.

When Russia invaded Ukraine and sanctions were announced, Putin gave a speech about how he would work with the provinces and Duma to encourage entrepreneurs to pick up the slack by reducing taxes, reducing regulation, making new business registration easier, offering discounted land in industrial parks, making energy cheaper business.
He sounded like a libertarian

Why did Putin bring back the State Anthem of the Soviet Union as the national anthem? Why does Putin have the hammer and sickle symbol installed on all government buildings?

If the Germans were flying the Nazi flag, putting swastikas on their airplanes, and singing the Horst Wessel Lied you’d call them “Nazis” and you’d say it was Nazi Germany.
Well, by that standard then Russia is the Soviet Union.
ANYTHING that Russia needs and cannot buy directly they get through China*, and if not, India or other countries.

I agree with them, also Gonzalo Lira who was on their show live this morning when the NY Times broke this story. Can you imagine what the Taiwanese are thinking? All they have to do is look at Bakhmut for a peek at their future. I'm thinking they'll be in a deal with China very shortly.
Russia has a self sustaining agricultural sector complete with the means to make chemical fertilizer. Growing a turnip or a cabbage there isn’t a big problem. However if that was a warehouse filled with state-of-the-art missile and smart shell guidance systems then I’d be impressed, because that’s precisely the sort thing the sanctions were meant to impact, not vegetables and cheese.
I wish we had grocery stores with this selection of food at these prices, and I’m less than an hour from DC. Biden has made us third world by supporting the corrupt Ukraine.

Because it is just history and also few people in Russia still support them. So for sake of public peace he simply let it be. Also Lenin Mausoleum and Stalin grave along Kremlin wall on Red Square but 200 yards of them there is the Alexander Cathedral which holds the dozen graves of Russian czars. It is all 1,000 year long history of Russia.
Russia doesn’t purge her history by learning from it.
