CNN used misleading data from the Gun Violence Archive to claim Monday “the U.S. has surpassed 100 mass shootings in 2023.”
CNN noted, “America reached the grim number by the first week of March.”
Both CNN and the Gun Violence Archive departed from the standard definition for mass shootings, which the Rand Corporation observed as being derived from the FBI’s 1980s definition of a “mass murderer” of an individual who “kills four or more people in a single incident (not including himself).”

Change the standard definition to FIT the new narrative. Where have we seen that tactic before????
It’s akin to them defining school shootings when someone is shot in a school zone…on a Saturday night.
I used to “work with numbers”. You can make them sing any song you want.
My understanding is that a “mass shooting” is defined as 3 people or more shot. That goes on in Chicago every weekend.
“But for CNN and the Gun Violence Archive, an incident with no fatalities is still a mass shooting.”
So if multiple people are shot but no-one dies it shouldn’t be regarded as a mass shooting?
Criteria was created for statistical purposes only.
I think the number should be raised to 20. Four people can easily be a neighborhood scuffle. I understand the rule was instituted in the 1970’s when the country was sane and four deaths then would cause shock. But those days are over and they need to update the parameters.

That is 166 per month. That is hard to imagine.

Well the civilians are unarmed and the criminals are all armed.
And the heads of the criminal organizations are the head of the ComDem’s.

You can define it that way if you want, but then your new statistics you compile under the new definition will be completely useless for comparison to all of the statistics compiled under the old definition.
