NATO's deputy secretary general has said Moldova should be less afraid of Russia, amid growing concerns over the security situation in the former Soviet republic.
Speaking to Romanian television channel Prima TV on Saturday, Mircea Geoană accused Russia of putting "enormous pressure" on the Republic of Moldova "on all fronts."

Moldova Shouldn’t Fear Incapable Russia, NATO Chief Says
Moldova should absolutely fear Russia.
Russia already has troops on Moldava soil. And given that Russia is likely to suffer a defeat in Ukraine, little Moldova might appear to Russia as an easy prize to capture to mollify the protesters back home.
Not to mention that seizing Moldova gives Russia another border to attempt to conquer Ukraine from.
Hmmm. Moldova is currently run by a bunch of foreigners who took power through the election fraud, voted to abolish the term “Moldovan language” and say that there is no Moldova but a Greater Romania.
But they need to fear Russia of course:)
That is Trump collusion in a nutshell
Is GloboHomo-Soros-Neocon in the room with you now?
So that is the current Soviet, er, Russian line on Moldavia these days?
You just can’t stop with the pro-Russia propaganda.
The Russia trolls spout nonsense.
Putin wouldn’t dare invade a NATO country.
“Moldova Shouldn’t Fear Incapable Russia”
I suspect that’s pretty much what we told Ukraine - now half a million are dead or wounded, and 10 million plus are displaced.
I guess the moral of the story is to make an effort to understand the motives of those who give you dumb advice.
Moldova/Moldavia is not a NATO country. Nor is it in the EU.
So why is NATO sticking it’s nose into none of it’s business? I thought it was a defensive organization.
Same issue as Ukraine. If Russia attacks it, next door to a NATO ally, thats a problem.
Not that Russia has many direct options in Moldova. Its going to be extremely difficult for Russia to land troops in Moldova by Air or Sea, because of the proximity of Ukrainian territory and SAM/antiship systems.
The only potential option would be some sort of coup de main by groups of local Russian sympathisers.
There is no way for Russia to invade Moldova, not now and not since May 2022 when Russia's attempts to capture Mykolaiv and Odessa failed
But it would be good for Moldova to join Romania - maybe sans Transdniester if need be.
NoseWanking from Moscow “. Moldova is currently run by a bunch of foreigners who took power through the election fraud”
Ha ha ha
Leave it to this Mircea Geoană schmuck from ROMANIA to bloviate and bluster about a NATO/RUS war in which he (his country) wouldn’t bear the brunt of the cost in money or soldiers lives.
Under Putin, Russia has adopted imperialist goals and advanced broad ideological claims that permit it to expand the territory under its control with little regard to whether there is a genuine Russian community present. Pro-Russian sympathizers supported with cash and promises of power are taken as enough to justify Russian intervention.
Furthermore, “moldova” is the result of Russia biting off a chunk of Romania.
Moldovans and Romanians speak a mutually intelligible language, they are also historically the same people and today the vast majority - except in the Transdniester region and to some extent the Gagauz (a Turkic people) region - want to join Romania.
The people in Transdniester are mainly Russians (30%) and Ukrainians (20%) who were moved there during the Soviet Union.
Let Transdniester get its independence and Moldova west of the Dniester join Romania.
The Gagauz are a different case - they are Turkic but eastern orthodox and not Romanian nor Russian.
Ideally give them independence as well
