Republican Texas State Representative Bryan Slaton introduced a bill Monday to allow Texans to vote on whether the Lone Star State should secede from the United States.
If the Texas Legislature passes the Texas Independence Referendum Act," or TEXIT, a referendum will be placed on the ballot during the 2024 general election.
"The Texas Constitution is clear that all political power resides in the people. After decades of continuous abuse of our rights and liberties by the federal government, it is time to let the people of Texas make their voices heard," Slaton said in a statement.

Oh, you know....FJB has F-15s ‘n stuff. No one is allowed to escape him.
What about my government check?
The Founders did brilliant work. But in my opinion they made three major mistakes.
1. They did not term-limit federal offices.
2. They did not gradually phase out slavery. That could have been done over, say, 40 or 50 years.
3. They did not provide for a peaceful way for a state to leave the Union. Such a method should have high hurdles. But it should be doable.
If I ever get my time machine working, I’m going to mention all this to Mr. Washington.
Well, on the phase-out of slavery thing: Let’s imagine they tried to do that. Well, we probably would have never gotten the Constitution accepted by all the states.
So in your revisionist world do you think we might have ended up with two (or more) separate countries?
Totally agree on the term limits thing.
Splitting up the United States is not a resolution to our
problems.
If we are going to remain a global power, we cannot start
a movement to split our nation in half.
A thoughtful response...
good move. no reason to stay. get out and close your borders while the getting is good.
Sure it is!
This Texan is all for it. Signing on to become a State was never meant to be a Suicide3 Pact.
Then the sane few states that leave the union have no nukes,
no air force, no military, no navy...
They also dilute the GNP, tax base, and the populace.
We become two nations, one that wants to work with China and
one that would likely not want to.
Tell me how that actually makes us stronger as a nation.
Well, you can’t.
Texas would do better by splitting into five separate states as was a condition of their annexation to the union.
Would the southern states have gone for that? Maybe, if the money was good enough and if the time were stretched out long enough. Nobody likes unpleasant change that happens over a year or two. But over 50 years? Maybe. Let my grandkids deal with it.
It’s all hypothetical anyway. Unless I can get my time machine going. I just need one more flux capacitor. But Amazon is all sold out.
I’m in.
And a gaggle of B-1s are at Abilene.
f-16s are made in Ft. Worthless.
Fort Hood, Fort Bliss, Fort Sill nearby.
It’s a good start.
Let’s rumble.
maybe i can’t. not the ‘stronger nation’ you pine for that no longer exists. but i’ll let a much better man talk for me:
“But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth.”
Luke 11:17
Texas is big but not that big.
Not even in their own eyes!
Who said they have none of those things? They’d deserve their share and I’m willing to bet industry in Texas could assemble nukes real fast
Allowing Texas and whoever wants to join them to leave amicably avoids the potential of them leaving violently and possibly looking to less friendly nations for weapons
Kurt Schlichter wrote a pretty good book “People’s Republic” that seems fairly prescient
That all said, if the people in Texas or any other state decide they don’t want to be part that is their right even if it inconveniences the rest of the country-we aren’t fully collectivists yes
I may not like the current direction we’re headed, but I can’t
sign on to not having any means of defending ourselves against
China or whoever else wants to take us down.
The nation we have would not be the type of big nation I desire,
but it would at least be a nation.
