Pentagon Observes Giant Cargo Cranes As Potential Chinese Spying Tools

US officials are becoming increasingly concerned that Chinese-manufactured cranes operating at US ports across the nation, including at multiple runs by the military, could provide Beijing with a spying tool masked in plain sight.

Some Pentagon and national security officials have reportedly compared ship-to-shore cranes made by a Chinese manufacturer, the ZPMC, to a Trojan horse.

While relatively well made and inexpensive, they boast intelligent sensors that can easily register and track provenance and the destination of containers, prompting that China may be able to capture information regarding material being shipped in/out of the nation to facilitate US military operations all over the world.

The cranes can also offer remote access to someone looking toward disrupting the flow of goods, mentioned Bill Evanina, a top, former US counterintelligence official.

Cranes can be the new Huawei, Evanina explained, referring to the Chinese telecom major Huawei Technologies Co., the equipment the US officials have banned after warning that it could be used to spy on Americans. Huawei has reportedly said that its products are not a cause of national security risk.

A representative of the Chinese Embassy based in Washington referred to the US concerns regarding the cranes as a “paranoia-driven” trial to obstruct economic and trade cooperation with China.

Flashing the ‘China card’ and floating across the ‘China threat’ theory is essentially irresponsible and will harm the interests of the US itself, it mentioned.

China has been preparing for war against the US for years now. And we have a president who is owned by China.

Everything in all our stores is ‘made in China’ and we’ve made China rich for years. I’ve been saying this is wrong for years with answers coming back to me that it was alright.

It was not ‘alright’. We now have made an enemy strong as an ox.

The Chinese CCP is able to spy on everything with an ethernet link, which is just about everything in every part of American industry. Anything with a machine network IP address can be spied on. So does our government. What do you really think the NSA and CIA do? It’s just that American agencies that spy on everything sell the access to that information. The CCP uses it for long term strategic opportunities and short term response to the occasional pop-up crisis. They aren’t as greedy and compromised as the U.S. spy agencies.

Not as cheaply as Chinese military subsidized slave labor.

Cheaper to off shore ‘em.

Also, how many of the port facilities that these cranes are used in are owned by the ChiComs?

Spying is a BIG concern.

But imagine Chinese ship-to-shore cranes knowing that particular containers are filled with something corrosive, inflammable, shock sensitive, and/or explosive and “accidentally” autonomously dropping them on the top of fully loaded cargo ships.

Let's just say, if China stopped shipping everything they ship to America we'd be in heap big trouble. anted that would be a last resort measure in a WWIII scenario, but we'd clearly run out of just about everything.

Even more worrisome are the satellite-controlled weaponized cargo containers, the Club-Ks. Russia has been selling them — or their technology — to Iran and who knows who else. What’s more, the Obama Administration leased a huge cargo terminal at Port Canaveral to UAE-owned Gulftainer, making it a snap for foreign entities to get their missiles and launchers right onto American soil. And meanwhile all of our missile-detection tech is looking outward . . .

One dramatic arranged mishap would jeopardize thirty years of future intelligence material. For that reason I doubt it.

Like the British had to let enough massacre go on by the Germans even though they broke Enigma code so that the Germans wouldn't realize they were being completely monitored in their plans and communications. A long game thing.

...increasingly concerned that Chinese-manufactured cranes operating at US ports across the nation, including at multiple runs by the military, could provide Beijing with a spying tool masked in plain sight.

I'm amazed the thugs and goons in 'intelligence' had time to notice crane spying since for years their most important 'shiny' object has been finding 'lone wolves' and conservative Americans.

And since it's unlikely to find a true 'lone wolf' - to manufacture some out of mentally ill young men.

Here's a flash CIA and FBI - it's a fool's errand - much like hunting for future serial killers. Maybe China was behind the 'hunt for lone wolves' - it's a scam... keeps FBI and CIA fools from seeing China buying up half of DC and putting spy software in their computers and cranes building their buildings...

CIA and FBI - China's played you for fools...
