According to the March 5 U.K. Defense Ministry's intelligence update, Russian soldiers are forced into hand-and-hand combat due to lack of ammunition. The reservists were thus ordered by the Russian Command to assault a Ukrainian concrete strong point with only “firearms and shovels.”
“The lethality of the standard-issue MPL-50 entrenching tool is particularly mythologized in Russia. Little changed since it was designed in 1869, its continued use as a weapon highlights the brutal and low-tech fighting which has come to characterize much of the war,” the report states.
The U.K. Defense Ministry also commented that one of the reservists described being “neither physically, nor mentally” capable of the action.
Meanwhile, the General Staff of Ukraine's Armed Forces reported on March 5 that Russia had lost 153,120 troops in Ukraine since the beginning of its full-scale invasion, including 930 casualties over the past day.

“It’s rough out there”— Rodney Dangerfield
Propaganda from the same UK government that spies on Americans on behalf of the American intelligence apparatus to get around the US Constitution as part of Five Eyes?
It comments to itself. Sad.
“UK Defense Ministry: Freshly mobilized Russian soldiers ordered to storm Ukrainian positions with ‘firearms and shovels’”
...and in other news Bakhmut is in the final liberation process as Ukrainian troops are making a mad dash to the west, so it looks like the ‘firearms and shovels’ were enough to do the job.
Yeah, you can use it like an ax but really, unless you are Conan you’re going to get shot.
So go post some pro-Putin / pro-Invasion trash. No one is stopping you.
There was a story about Heinrich Himmler flying up to Northern Germany in final days of the Third Reich with elaborately drawn plans for a counterattack to through back the Russians. When he presented his plans to commanding general, the general observed, “Mein Fuehrer (Himmler was an Unterfuehrer), I am sure these plans were drawn up with the utmost care, but there is no fuel for the tanks, no ammunition for the guns. When the men are given these orders, they will conclude that we are nincompoops, throw up their hands and surrender to Allies.”
These reports, if true, bespeak utter desperation. Hard to believe anything like this could be true.
You have to deflect from the Ukrainians have to fight their way out of the Artemovs’k cauldron with only “firearms, shovels and tears”...
To shoot them, the Ulrainians would need ammo...
Yea, this is a PRO-BIDEN site when it comes to Ukraine, so you’re not allowed to post here.
(according to some people)
Go back to your youtube channel. No truth, no facts, no brain.
I expect they have plenty of small arms ammo, it’s artillery shells and missiles they need. If it comes down to hand to hand fighting the Russians are done.
The Russians are doing their “hand-to-hand fighting” with artillery.
Russia is a second-rate power with a lot of non-conventional capabilities, but please, this reeks of the most over-the-top propaganda. It is nothing more than transcribing what some MOD flunky fed the reporter. Not that I expect the Kyiv Independent to be objective, but it is especially bad in the British press. It has actually fallen to the BBC to set the record straight on Russian casualties, battlefield operations, etc. Surprisingly, the old BBC has been one of the more objective sources in covering this conflict
Oh ... it’s from MSN ... (LOL!)
I also find it hilarious when Zeepers try to tell you that you cannot comment in reply to their comments. I call them safe-space Zeepers. The bloodthirsty idiots are leftist to their core.
You should be glad I showed up so you didn’t have to keep commenting to yourself. You are welcome.
That's funny. The other day SACEUR Gen Cavoli who just recently took command is going around saying that Russia is fighting with an intensity that the West never imagined and is unprepared for. It would take years to ramp up production to match the 20,000 artillery rounds per day that the Russians are expending on average.
This is not actually new doctrine for the Russians. We just forgot what their old doctrine was when the Soviet Union collapsed. Apparently the Russians didn't.
