Needed to be 'said' !
I’d think you would have weeks of provisions put away.
Snowflakes being snowflakes about the snowflakes.
Can’t make this stuff up.
“If they watched Jerimiah Johnson”
Now there is a movie I haven’t watched in a while. It certainly was one of the “greats”! When I read history books or watch movies depicting the hard times and suffering our ancestors went through in settling our country (although movie depictions always rather romanticized the entire starving to death scenarios), I recognize more and more exactly what they did that was so brave and inspiring. Masculine “toxicity” certainly ran rampant.
I know the current narrative is that women, especially black women, built our nation. However, the fact is that it was strong men who did the work, cleared the land, build the homes and towns, and conquered the lands so that we all might prosper to this day. And we are throwing that all away in sacrifice to their climate gods.
Next, I watch videos of young men and women on a weekend retreat being outraged that they are expected to camp outside without running water at their fingertips, with no knowledge of how to build a fire (even with a full box of stick matches). Although I laugh at their ignorance and lack of basic knowledge, I wonder how the “experts” that have controlled our nation for way to long could have been allowed to lead us so far astray.
Aye. 395 was closed. Its been closed from Lee Vining to Walker since Monday I think. I tried to sneak over on the road from Hawthorne to Lee Vining but that turned to deep snow at the CA border. Somebody had attempted it shortly before me and got stuck, so I helped pull him out and we both turned back. So, bishop it was. Just out of curiosity, I drove to Lee Vining from Mammoth to see it because I was wondering why it was such a big deal, and was just amazed how much snow they had to move per mile to partially clear the road. It was amazing
These folks don’t own shovels?
“These folks don’t own shovels?”
A shovel isn’t going to be much help in eight feet of snow. LOL. A teaspoon would probably work just as well. When there is several feet of snow all around you, exactly where are you going to shovel all that snow to? Eight feet of snow comes up to the top of your doors and windows. Where do you start and what do you do with that first and second shovelful? Store it in a bucket or the tub? Then what?
I would have thought four or five months at least. I must have missed the point when my fellow citizens became such pansies.
The current crop of morons infesting this country is the biggest bunch of sissies I’ve ever seen in my life. Oh look! A big snowflake! Somebody save me! Grow up you idiots.
*Laughs in Northern Wisconsin*
Blame all of the electric cars.
No.
In fact they do not plan at all.
A family that moved into our area last summer was surprised by a December snow. It was not that bad but the lights did go out. I had Oldest Son go over and ask how they were doing. Let's just say, not good. No lights, no water, no wood. So he invited them back to our place where we had the woodstove going.
They could see the smoke from our stove and those of three other neighbors and it never dawned on them to go knock on the door and ask if we would share our fire.
only in California would people live in the mountains, and not know how to live in the mountains.
And expect everyone or anyone to take care of them.
Florida forever resident until moving to western slope Colorado. If you have any sense, you figure out how to live in the cold real fast. Or you freeze to death.
There are a lot of people who know how to live in the mountains here in calif. This was a huge storm, all the San Bernardino mountain roads are closed because the county was not prepared.
Some folks are economically unable to leave their residences. Some folks are too old and ill to shovel snow. Some folks are literally snowed-in and can’t get fuel to operate their generators. Even the utility companies are blocked by snow and downed trees and cannot provide light and heat. Don’t go hatin’ on people about whose circumstances you know nothing! Those of you not trapped by these storms ought to simply thank God that you’re not!
395 is closed in spots too lots of snow on the east range.
When you have a major snow storm such as this one has been, you are not just dealing with one emergency. Households are dealing with several at a time and there is no time to rest. The house has to be kept warm. Food has to be prepared. Babies have to be fed and kept clean. Trash piles up.
If there is no electricity then just food prep and keeping heat alone are non-stop jobs. What if water is shut off? Then pans of snow have to be brought in for melting. It’s great if you have a wood stove, but it’s a cold and hard trek outside to get to the storage of firewood. If there are extremely young, old, or sick people in a household that presents more challenges. Gas meters have to be kept free from snow, water pipes have to be protected, and animals need to be cared for and fed and watered. Most of us can deal with one of those issues for a day or even a week, but have them all come at once will try even the most competent and prepared people.
A family’s patience and endurance is taken to it’s limits as there is no time to rest. This is not something that a short sprint of energy can resolve since you have to keep up that level of energy for days at a time. It’s exhausting! So let’s cut these people some slack here.
Amen!
How would you handle 6 to 10 feet of snow over 3 days ummmm
We’ve had many Massachusetts ‘covid refugees’ move into Northern VT. They had this dream of living off the land, raising chickens and trying every hare-brained idea in all the books they’ve read. It’s not working very well for many of them. Frozen pipes, broken vehicles, 75% of chickens dead. Wait until the bears come out of hibernation - they haven’t experienced that yet.
