He interfered with their revenue generation operation. He must be punished and made to never do it again!
Or so goes their thinking.
I just use Waze. Drove up to the Grand Canyon yesterday and flagged 3-4 of them.
In California, Spanish-speaking radio stations warn drivers about drunk driving checks.
What are the laws against radar detectors these days?
Great ruling on appeal.
Perhaps someday, the courts will rule on the theft of our automobiles, stealing our ownership title, converting them to ‘motor vehicles’, and then penalizing us for violations of contract codes and ordinances.
Are the cops there to shake down drivers in speedtraps or to keep the peace? I already know the answer in all the Blue-states.
Only illegal in a couple states and on military installations unless you have a CDL.
Download the Highway Radar app to your smart phone from the Google Store. It’s free.
When it asks what server you want to use, type in waze dot com. It will use the Waze database but gives a 3 mile warning for police, much longer than Waze gives. Also gives warnings about road hazards, etc. It will ask you about Sabre plug-ins but that’s not necessary, just link up to Waze and you’ll be ok.
The app was created by just one guy in his spare time, kind of basic, but it works well. On a busy day on an Interstate it’s kind of chatty, warning about cops, cars in the emergency lane, debris on the road, etc. I find it entertaining on a long drive, and talk back to it sometimes. My wife thinks I’m an idiot, but what else is new.
So WAZE saying “Police Reported Ahead” is now OK. Good (I don’t speed)
Retards with badges can’t be expected to understand the Constitution they all swore to uphold and defend against retards with badges.
How interesting that cops demand special privileges.
As well the court should have upheld his right to warn. If the intention of traffic control is to prevent and protect the sign only serves to further that intention.
Only if traffic control is for revenue and punishment does it have any reason to be concerned about warnings.
Our local police and news paper publish traffic control areas for the coming week and they still end up ticketing speeders.
“A U.S. district court dismissed Friend’s suit in 2020, finding that: Friend’s sign “did not discuss a topic or express his opinion on it;” that Gasparino had a compelling government interest in stopping Friend from spoiling the police sting; and that Gasparino had probable cause to arrest Friend for returning after he told him not to.”
Spoken like a true tribunal and servant of a dictator.
The patriots armed themselves and prevented such judges from returning to their courts. Sounds like a good idea to me.
I thought a “sting” constitutes entrapment?
Gaspirino is just another poster child for the police state and excessive control.
Back in the old days the Klan would have burned a cross in Gaspirino’s front yard. There would not be a second warning. Instead he would be tarred and feathered and carried to the outskirts of town on a rail.
Haven’t we had enough? Looks like not yet.
Protect your gas stove.
If it gets people to slow down and not speed WHICH IS THE GOAL IS IT NOT, what is wrong with it.
In one small town in Iowa there is a 63 ford with a mayberry cherry on it parked at the corner. People slow down.
VFW near work has “Radar Trap Ahead” on their changeable copy sign because that road has speed traps at least once a week. I regularly flash my lights to warn oncoming vehicles when I see a speed trap.
Back in FL, the radio stations would warn of license/insurance check points. They would have one set up somewhere every Saturday morning around 10am.
It’s one of the few ways we’re still revolutionaries here in the USA, like throwing tea off a ship.
I never knew that that was a warning. I always wondered why oncoming drives would flick their lights. Apparently I’m the only one who didn’t know, cuz autocorrect practically wrote previous sentence.
It’s amazing to me at how many people mindlessly parrot talking points that they read on the Youtube comments section without thinking through what those comments mean.
“Dangerous” does not equate with “deaths.”
If officers respond to a violent man with a knife, who is threatening them, and then they successfully subdue him without injury, it does not make the task any less dangerous.
You are making the mistake of conflating deaths with danger. Those are not the same thing.
There are approximately 800,000 sworn officers in the United States. In 2019 (the last year that I have statistics for) 56,034 were assaulted on duty and of those, 17,188 suffered injuries.
I can guarantee you that 56000 lawn workers were not assaulted on duty while cutting grass. The fact that there were not 56000 deaths does not make the job any less hazardous than it would be otherwise. It’s just a testament to training, medical care and tactics.
Agreed.
There was a suit awhile back were a fel.a was suing to be “allowed to give the cops the middle finger” stating that it was “free speech”. I think he won, if I remember right.
I think the police get far more hits from those making illegal U-turns to avoid the roadblock than those caught at the actual stop.
My uncle got pulled over for a vehicle safety inspection when he did that (because an unsteady headlight is an obvious safety problem). The cop was a real smartass about it, saying that the headlights looked like they turned on and off properly with no blinking during the inspection. Fortunately, all of his bulbs worked and his tires were good so he got his inspection sticker instead of a ticket, but it still wasted a lot of time. The process is the punishment.
My point is if you screw with people over small schiff’ty laws and kill them you aren’t going to be very respected.
Yes cops get hurt, so does everybody else. The big difference is a cop can destroy your life just because they can.
Too much power in the hands of poorly trained a$$holes.
Full disclosure;
My BIL is a Federal cop. He could not stand working with city police. He’s probably the only cop I like.
I’ve had two speeding tickets in my 67 years and never been
convicted of a crime, but spent some time in jail, New Orleans Parish prison, due to A$$wipe cops, I insulted them.
They knew charges would be dropped, but hey, they could screw me over, without any re-course from me. They had Beer for dinner and I had to deal with murderers, rapists, and robbers.
I despise cops.
