so members can leave any time they want

No. It’s just that they can’t rip their mouth away from the American nipple. The Russian military has spent about 2 decades being about 10% of the size of the Fulda Gap days. NATO is an employment program for EU bureaucrats, and a cash cow for the “defense” industry. That’s it.
Nato members don’t leave because the USA supports their defense with equipment and lots of American dollars. Then the Nato countries do not spend the required 2% GNP as required saving billions in funds and then spent on woke shit and rape u gees.
We also don’t see hordes of people trying to get into Russia, China, India, North Korea, S. Africa, or Iran.
What a fun little club they have there.
