FALL RIVER — David Mello leads the children’s section of the 19th-century library in the center of the city, a longtime public servant whose ready smile turns rueful when he recalls the ugly protest on its granite steps late last year.
About 20 neo-Nazis shouted at adults and children as they arrived Dec. 10 for Drag Story Hour, a library event in which volunteers who are dressed in drag read books to children. The readers were denounced as pedophiles. Antisemitic slurs were hurled at an adult there wearing a yarmulke. And protesters flashed the Nazi salute.
“It’s now come to our doorstep,” Mello said. “In a building where everyone should feel comfortable, it saddens you that people have to be worried violent protesters might be outside.”

Your point is well made but two things should emphasis it.
First the beginning sentence of the report screams bias as it uses the loaded term “neo Nazi” in describing the protestors.
Second, anyone with half and education in political history knows that librarians through their associations are perhaps only equaled as a safe harbor for communist members and promoters with the NYC teachers union. So the statement that it has finally come to their doorstep is a laughable matter.
Librarians did this stuff a long time ago, thirty-forty years ago.
It seems that it is now normal to have pedophiles as role models grooming children in libraries, schools, even churches. Any opposition is portrayed as outdated, and equated with evil groups in history. And a great many indoctrinated, public school educated people can adjust their thinking to wholeheartedly believe that is true.
I know something about librarians from going to college with Library Science majors and from going to libraries. Librarians are by and large leftists, like teachers. Their education is indoctrination and certainly not rigorous. It doesn’t require above average intelligence so librarians rely on advanced degree (credentialism) to justify their pay and to win arguments over who they perceive as beneath them.
Given all the stories about porn and drag queens, it seems Librarians have gone the route of government school teachers. They are groomers, just like teachers.
Growing up, I saw the librarians in our town, local college and universities as mainly old Maids, who never smiled.
Your sentence above made me think as an old 84 year old guy, and you are on target in today's world!:
"They are groomers, just like teachers!"
Yes, that is EXACTLY their MO. It reminds me of Klinger in MASH.
I worked at an institution that had its own library. The previous library director, who retired about eight years ago, would only hire LGBT staff members, even back years ago. Every single employee was homosexual. Library services suffered as a result of hiring to check boxes rather than their experience and work-related skills. I’ve never seen a group of more miserable people than they were.
The old director retired and a new director with a goal of competence and efficiency was hired. Within two years, our library was receiving accolades for its streamlined programs and efficiency in providing services. Most of the older staff members have now left since they could not meet her demands for excellence. The new hires brought a new standard of excellence to the department and everyone there is happier.
Aren’t libraries pretty much obsolete anyway?
I have been satisfied librarians for 20 years. The ALA Influences even the smallest library nationally.
Librarians have removed our culture from our libraries. It is time to end public libraries and go to private subscription libraries.
the internet has made libraries obsolete ...
Absolutely. But a subscription conservative library would be important because leftists are purging classics. And they will purge the internet too
Leftists lie.
“Aren’t libraries pretty much obsolete anyway?”
For some they are as people can now just order whatever book they want online and have it delivered in a day or two, and you can read and download so much information on the internet. But, for research for white-papers, old law, medical and scientific research, etc, a lot of time you are going to have to go to a library.
My grandchildren still go regularly to our local library to check out books to read. Thankfully, we are a small rural county that doesn’t have drag-queen story hour so that resource is still available to them. Years ago, I remember my son bringing home a book and in the back was taped a card showing the names of those who previously checked out the book. (As you can tell this was decades ago). Clearly written out in my young handwriting was my name. That’s a lot of history that book as seen.
I hope libraries do not disappear. There is something about stepping into one and smelling all the old books and thinking of the history and knowledge that is stored for future generations to access.
It was far to important to be left to the plebs.
OBSOLETE! Mr. Wordsworth, you are OBSOLETE.
Being a librarian is not exactly the most mentally challenging work. Going through college, they take math and science but find out that they can’t do math and science but they still want a college education so they take English and Social Studies. Same curriculum as teachers, journalists and social workers. They don’t have the mental acuity that an engineer or scientist has so logic is not something they would ever use. It’s all about feelings and indoctrination. So it isn’t surprising that librarians turn out to be liberals.
There were some protesters there with their faces covered and wearing caps with NSC 131 on them.

However, there were also regular people there protesting, possibly more of them than the neo-nazis.
I do wish neo-nazis would stay away from these protests so the leftists wouldn’t be able to demonize all the protesters.
American Library Association bears a large responsibility.
