DeSantis, Pence will not attend CPAC 2023—Trump to give keynote speech

As the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) is set to return to the Washington, DC area this week after spending the pandemic years in Orlando, former Vice President Mike Pence and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who are both being eyed for presidential runs in 2024, are not expected to attend.

DeSantis, who spoke at last year’s conference in Orlando, Florida, reportedly has "other plans" and will not be attending, according to News 4 Jax. A CPAC spokesperson told the outlet on Monday that the Florida Governor is currently not slated to attend the event.

DeSantis is set to headline two Republican fundraisers in Texas on Saturday, and at a reception for the GOP of Orange County, California on Sunday.

Sources told ABC News that Pence has declined an invitation to the conference.

"It's a missed opportunity for any potential Presidential Candidate to not address the thousands of grassroots activists at CPAC this year. Luckily, CPAC attendees will get to hear from every announced Presidential candidate and over 100 premiere speakers, including over 30 elected officials," Megan Powers, a spokesperson for CPAC, told ABC News on Saturday.

Both former President Donald Trump and former Ambassador Nikki Haley, who have announced their runs for president, are scheduled to speak at the conference, with Trump giving the keynote address.

Now I got hit on from JD Vance. He Needs money?

Ditto here. I reckon since he immediately stuck his nose in McConnell's crack that McConnell has him out beating the ground for money to be turned over to McConnell's general slush fund. Hit up on the marks he fooled into thinking that he's anything but a Silicon Valley RINO.

Further I suspect that if DeSantis attended CPAC, he knows Trump would go over the top even more than usual with the ad hominem schoolyard taunts.

Perhaps Ron feels he doesn’t want to escalate Trump, who is, I fear, too predictable at this point. Remember there is an actual election coming up after the mud rasslin’ is over.

That said, I’d hope Trump leaves the schoolyard behind and acts as presidential as we need him to.

It’s interesting.

CPAC = activists and the base. Trump is a lot closer to them than his would be challengers.

It should tell you something .

"Yea, he's not running. "

Hopefully he's not...just building up his political war chest, and using some of the money to help Conservatives get elected. If he does give some of that money away, people need to keep track of who it's going to.

It’s a no-brainer, really. He can get into a knock-down bloody fight with Trump and maybe get nominated, but even then be damaged or damage Trump as the nominee, or he can cash in on a great record as governor to run in 2028.

Even if that was true, which it isn't, DeSantis is still a coward for dodging CPAC.
