DeSantis, Pence will not attend CPAC 2023—Trump to give keynote speech

As the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) is set to return to the Washington, DC area this week after spending the pandemic years in Orlando, former Vice President Mike Pence and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who are both being eyed for presidential runs in 2024, are not expected to attend.

DeSantis, who spoke at last year’s conference in Orlando, Florida, reportedly has "other plans" and will not be attending, according to News 4 Jax. A CPAC spokesperson told the outlet on Monday that the Florida Governor is currently not slated to attend the event.

DeSantis is set to headline two Republican fundraisers in Texas on Saturday, and at a reception for the GOP of Orange County, California on Sunday.

Sources told ABC News that Pence has declined an invitation to the conference.

"It's a missed opportunity for any potential Presidential Candidate to not address the thousands of grassroots activists at CPAC this year. Luckily, CPAC attendees will get to hear from every announced Presidential candidate and over 100 premiere speakers, including over 30 elected officials," Megan Powers, a spokesperson for CPAC, told ABC News on Saturday.

Both former President Donald Trump and former Ambassador Nikki Haley, who have announced their runs for president, are scheduled to speak at the conference, with Trump giving the keynote address.

I just got an email from Ron Johnson for money to support the ‘house conservatives fund’. Anyone else? Normally I wouldn’t but he did run for a 3rd term and got it. Anyone else would have lost. Unbelievable someone named Mandela even had a chance.

So just for him I’m sending $25. He didn’t want to run but he took one for the team. We just don’t have enough of them. None of our candidates should go for lack of money.

Ron DeSantis is playing it cagey. He does not confront Trump directly, or engage in any background trash talk. He MAY be interested in the Presidential race for 2024, but only if Trump stumbles on his own. Then DeSantis is Plan B. He might only be able to enter the race at a very late date, and the actual nomination may not be determined until the convention.

Is Ron DeSantis seriously considering the run for the Presidency? He is virtually the only serious contender - for 2028. But for most of the next two years he has a state to run, for which he is displaying the most extraordinary capability and finesse.

Problem is, if not Trump, then who? I think DeSantis is the only one who could appeal to Trump voters.

“Not a smart move on their parts. Maybe I gave DeSantis a bit too much credit. THIS is very shortsighted.”

All the Only Trumpers scream that DeSantis is establishment, but when he doesn’t do something establishment-like, they put him down.

DeSantis staying away from young conservatives, not a good idea.

I don't see any way for DeSantis to run against Trump without criticizing Trump.

That alone will kill any appeal he has with Trump voters.

Now I got hit on from JD Vance. He Needs money? He’s good for 6 years. He’s on his own. So was Johnson’s incumbency but he needed the help. There’s Sherrod Brown, Tester and Mancin up next year. Winnable. There will be another 5 million ‘newcomers’ by then.

I’d like to know is DeSantis a Ron Paul kinda of guy or a Bush kind of guy?

If he’s going to Texas the company he keeps will be telling, won’t it?

I’m interested to know.

Johnson is one of the best senators you should support him if you can

Along with Rand...

They rely on those $10-20 donations not on PAC money etc
