Ruslan Kubay was surprised to receive a draft notice in late January. Registered as seriously disabled since childhood—Mr Kubay is missing both hands—he falls under a list of automatic exemptions from service. Even more surprising, however, was the reaction of officials at the local registration office in Drohobych, near Lviv. Far from admitting their error, they doubled down and declared him fit for service. Only a social-media post and subsequent national scandal reversed the decision. “I was disgusted by how easily our blind people can start seeing,” he wrote on Facebook.
Mr Kubay’s case was an extreme, but far from isolated, incident. Ukraine has visibly stepped up mobilisation activities in the first two months of this year. For unclear reasons, officials in western Ukraine have been the most aggressive, but the trend is clear across the country.
There have been reports of draft notices issued (and sometimes violently enforced) at military funerals in Lviv, checkpoints in Kharkiv, shopping centres in Kyiv and on street corners in Odessa.

This is also quite the admission from the Guardian:
“In December Ukraine’s top soldier, Valery Zaluzhny, told The Economist there was no immediate need for massive mobilisation; his main problems were armour and munitions. Sources within the general staff insist that is still the case. Moreover, there are natural limits to the numbers of soldiers Ukraine can absorb, says Viktor Kevlyuk, a reserve colonel. “You can’t mobilise 6,000 if your training ranges can only hold 3,000,” he says.”
“But force ratios, which once favoured Ukraine, have since tilted back towards Russia, which has mobilised at least 250,000 men since September. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s military leadership has been charged with building a reserve in advance of an expected counter-offensive. New Western hardware is arriving, and it needs to be manned. And heavy attrition rates in close-contact fighting on the eastern front, around the embattled town of Bakhmut, need to be balanced with new men.”
Yeah, they’re just putting warm bodies in Bakhmut trenches. Easy burial by artillery.
God, please, end this war.
Seeing as the average survival time at the front is only 4 hours, even if they weren’t disabled I can see why they would be reluctant to be drafted. It would be like volunteering for a suicide mission. It’s also pointless and futile as Ukraine’s chance of winning is zilch.
I’ve got to hand it to you. :)
Who wants to die in the Russian meatgrinder?
Have you seen the video of them trying to serve summons on an 85 yr old man?
He called them f***** morons ….they answered “ Well, are you alive?”
And the video of the screaming mother as they grab her 16 and 17 yr old sons?
The video of where they shove away the little boy trying to stop them from grabbing his Dad?
This finally made it to the mainstream media
It has been pointed out that many of the Ukrainian ‘stars of YouTube’ have fled the country, to avoid the draft.
I’m not going to criticize, living through constant shelling and waiting for the one with your name on it must be hellish. I cannot imagine how it must feel to sit in a trench and wait for the gunners to zero in on your location.
In short, they’re running out of people who want to pick up a gun.
More signs that Ukraine is crumbling.
You can’t fiat print an army or competent/un corrupted leadership
After looking at the picture in the article I have determined that a large percentage of Ukrainian soldiers are left handed.
Ruslan Kubay is probably an ethnic Russian, hence their fervor to genocide him
The media must pretend Ukraine is winning or the funding and weapons stop..... They of course refuse to ask too many questions if they understand they are being driven to poverty to fund defeat.....very sad when Ukraine has 15 yr olds on the front lines.
MYOFB canuk_crazy.
If you are a 55 year old peasant and you find youself drafted into WW1.5 by FJB’s Ukrainian money launderers, just be sure you get issued enough ammo to work your way back up the chain-of-command.
“Thanks for giving this poster a hand with this story...”
True, the comments and insights to his referenced posting from yesterday are far better than today’s, at least at this point in time.
freedom is my FB, AH
“Have you seen the video of them trying to serve summons on an 85 yr old man?”
People come up with all kinds of excuses to DODGE THE DRAFT. Being 85 years old is one of the oldest tricks in the book.
NO EXCUSES for ignoring the Call to Duty!!! but the army should make sure they bring his walker with him.
