I have a question about nuclear deterrence. US thinking has been that no nuclear "victory" will ever be worth the price of the destructive nuclear retaliation that will come from a first devastating blow against your cities and economies. But what happens if you are facing a great global imperial evil that undermines the possiblity of civil society or remunerative enterprise, turns peaceful neighbors into squalling enclaves of civil unrest and otherwise uses the bankign system to sponge off the whole world.

Can such an entity deter its own nuclear annihilation by posing a threat of a swift counterblow. Can the evil such an entity represents create such fear and loathing that it undermines the fear of retaliation that it depends upon for its depradations on the world.

How can such an entity tell that it has pushed so far that it's deterrent is now a pointless gesture in the effort to save itself from the world annihilation that it's nihilistic culture is striving?

Are you reaching that point when the other two great nuclear powers point out that you are the threat to world peace directly participating in endless war for well over a century? Are you straining the world's patience when asking "give peace a chance" you have engaged in endless war, with barely a pause?
