A defiant Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky marked the somber anniversary of the Russian invasion by vowing to bring his country to victory as battles raged on in the east with no end in sight to the conflict.
At a solemn ceremony on St. Sophia Square in Kyiv, a visibly emotional Zelensky handed out medals to soldiers and families of those killed and held back tears when a military band played the national anthem under Ukraine’s yellow-and-blue national flag fluttering in the wind.
“We have become one family. There are no more strangers among us. Ukrainians today are all fellows. Ukrainians have sheltered Ukrainians, opened their homes and hearts to those who were forced to flee the war,” Zelensky said in a video address titled “the year of invincibility”.
The 45-year-old first-term president sat at a desk and recalled how he addressed Ukrainians a year ago in a brief statement, as Russian troops poured into the neighboring country, hoping to bring it to heel in three days’ time.

So you actually think that if there was a negotiated settlement in which Putin was given some gains that somehow the people of Ukraine would be wiped out based on this generalization about what Russians are saying?

He said that in the context of being invaded. In other words, he said Ukraine will defeat everyone who invades Ukraine.
It’s what a national leader is expected to say. Hell, Putin says the same thing. Does Putin saying it give you the fantods, as well?

Alexey Milchakov is one of the Russian Rusich unit which has been to Ukraine by Putin to “de-nazify” the country.
He says he is in Ukraine to kill Ukrainians so that they can’t have Ukrainian children.

You are a liar. No one would have stopped anyone in the Donbas personally going back to Russia. But the pro-Russians in the Donbas wanted to take the Donbas back to Russia with them. That’s called civil war, son.

You are indeed a Russian troll. You vomit out the old Russian talking points without missing a beat. That 14,000 number — from independent sources — was the TOTAL killed from 2014 - 2021, and included combatants and non-combatants, FROM BOTH SIDES. The total number of civilians killed was less than 4,000, and THEY were killed by both sides. And I don’t think that includes the 280-odd civilians killed when the Russian separatists shot down Malaysian Airlines flight MH17.

Well seems to me a big difference between eradication and re-education.
As the war drags on, thousands have been eradicated already. And thousands more are being educated in the way of hating the other side. There is no shortage of brutality and hate now and in that environment there are copious amounts of calls to wipe out every last one of the other side and death-is-to-good-for-them sentiment.
That is what irrational hatred does. That is the education that it offers. It gives you fighting words and propaganda. Reams of it. The foolish lap it up in an orgy of self righteousness that fails to see the human cost of the very real eradication of people going on right now. Weapons contractors and corrupt politicians are the only benefactors.
To be clear, Putin does NOT deserve to make gains in the launching of this war. In a perfect world he would not make any. Seems very likely though he would sue for peace if he could get enough to get some bragging rights and try to portray it as a victory. Obviously that is not going to sit well with Zelensky or Ukrainian patriots. But if one actually cares about people not being eradicated it seems the obvious best option.

Oh, stop with the hyperbole and alarmism. You are doing EXACTLY what Putin wants you to do: Raise the inevitability of WWIII and nuclear destruction in order to get his opponent(s) to withdraw. Putin is a bully, and he is doing exactly what a bully does: Picks on those smaller and weaker than he; and if someone steps in and tells him to knock it off, he threatens to call in his big friends.

Sure. I don't think the US should send troops either. That said, Putin has supported BLM with the goal of weakening America. So if this war blows up in his face I can't say I'm going to be terribly upset.

He’ll fight to the last Ukrainian, then he and his cronies will jet off with their bags stuffed with US taxpayer money.
So why didn't he do that at the start of the war? The West offered him a ride.

When he says “defeat everyone” I’m pretty sure he means “every enemy soldier who is currently occupying Ukraine”.

I’ve never claimed they were wiped out, though many of them no doubt died in the battle of Mariupol and elsewhere. Not all were likely fighting at the front, I’m sure many were kept back to be used as enforcers.
There was nothing hyperbolic about my reply, we ARE headed to WW3 if we continue on the current path. Keep your head buried in the sand if you so choose.
