SeaWorld San Diego announced on Wednesday that the park would adopt a cashless policy. The theme park made the announcement on its website.
Guests can use a physical credit or debit card, Google Pay or Apple Pay to complete transactions across the theme park.
For guests that don’t have a physical card, SeaWorld will offer kiosks that will deposit cash onto a prepaid Visa card, a free service for guests.
If park visitors have money left over on the card after their visit, they can still use the card anywhere Visa cards are accepted.

“ For guests that don’t have a physical card, SeaWorld will offer kiosks that will deposit cash onto a prepaid Visa card, a free service for guests.”
So they actually do take cash.
The Mets did this at Citifield in 2021. Citibank provides the Visa Card machines. The folks who man the concessions do accept cash tips.
Well, the cash was getting all damp and smelled like fish, so this makes some sense. *SMIRK*
The Bill says “Legal Tender for alldebts public and private.” So, legally they must accept bills.
But, this is an attempt to keep employees from pocketing cash.
Yup—prevents “leakage”...I have been in the fair industry for some 30 years and have a story or two...
Makes sense. They do take cash. But you have to use kiosks. They don't have to worry about employees stealing from kiosks.
US Treasury-issued money (bills and coin) is Legal Tender in the USA. I wonder what the courts would say were they sued for refusing to accept Legal Tender?
Well, at least I know where not to go. Whew. Not scared anymore.
*There is a transaction fee for every use of a credit or debit card. Same for Apple Pay and like methods of payment.
No cash equals no incentive for robberies.
We’re taking our grand to Great Wolf Lodge (texas) and I found out they’re also cashless. I looked at their FB page and saw posts from customers stating they were told they’ll email them the itemized receipt (no paper receipt) after they’ve left. Some say they never received the email, others say when they got the email they were overcharged or had items on it they didn’t purchase. Problems I never experienced when I used cash payment.
Cash handling is a pain in the ass. Making change is hard for kids and idiots.
Admission charges are not “debts.” So, your premise is flawed.
Sea World was a place my kids loved when I was stationed in San Diego. But then San Diego was a place that could be loved and enjoyed. No so much anymore.
Will be interesting to see if this helps or harms Sea World’s business. As a side note, many small merchants here are now charging if you use credit or debit.
No, that is a common misconception.
If someone has an existing debt that is denominated in US dollars, they cannot refuse to take cash. But a vendor, a business, or an individual selling goods or services, can demand payment in something other than cash.
Or, something other than US dollars. Wampum, gold, S&H Green stamps. Or they could say cash only, no checks, no credit.
Check your property tax bill or any other government taxing authority on forms of payment accepted. They will accept cash, because they have to. They would prefer not to, because cash is a pain in the ass.
Why not Amazon pay? Greatest thing since sliced bread. You shop without having your cards in a hundred places...
Both good points.
The Bill says “Legal Tender for all debts public and private.”
Last year I gifted to my nieces some baseball games and tonight a basketball game. In both cases actual tickets no longer exist. You have to have a smartphone and download the tickets into various ticketing apps. Don’t have a smartphone....you ain’t going.
