KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Officials with Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge said there were no injuries nor any indication of a release of radioactivity after a fire involving uranium occurred early Wednesday.
According to a release from the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration, the fire occurred at 9:14 a.m. Steven Wyatt with NNSA said that there was a hood fire in Building 9212, a uranium procession facility. The building and some nearby areas were evacuated.
Tony Boser, a technical adviser, said that the fire was in a processing area and it was contained to that area. The cause of the fire is not yet known. Patterson said an investigation is ongoing.
All employees have been accounted for and there were no injuries, Consolidated Nuclear Security spokesperson Gene Patterson said.

“I didn’t even know about it until I saw it in here. I’m between Knoxville and Chattanooga.”
I didn’t, either. We’re in Lenoir City. You around Athens area, maybe?
“Was some gay dude appointed to run the place (who also steals women’s luggage so he can play dress up) running the place and is he in over his head?”
I know you’re joking, but you aren’t far off. Hubby couldn’t take the political correctness there so he retired early.
“The air is safe to drink and the water is safe to breathe”
LOL! But I won’t believe that unless someone from the government tells me.
Well, while we’re kinda sorta on the subject...
Editor wanted, no experience necessary; inquire within.
Yes, we are in Athens.
Our weather thingie says 10MPH, 20MPH gusts, out of SE headed NW.
Ours is slowing down some and I hope it quits. You are much closer to Oak Ridge than I am and I’m too close. I’ve lived around this area since 1968 and don’t remember them ever having a problem. They are very secure.
The “Good ol boys” probably did it for free.
If you were in uniform, they could see you were enlisted and knew you didn’t have any money.

No, we were in civilian clothes, and the car was a PINTO!
And we offered money but they refused................
“he car was a PINTO”
You should have let it go and collected the insurance.

The tree stopped it from going over.....................
I’m less than that.
Damn tree.

And I suppose it’s a coincidence that the China balloon flew DIRECTLY OVER ORNL last week.
And down closer to you is the Watts Bar dam facility. I hope they don’t mess with that.
Isn’t it odd that all of these acts of war are in Red states, or so it seems.
Watt’s Bar is the one that worries me. I can see the steam from the cooling towers from my house. I can’t help but wonder if this is their promise to attack rural America. They are too cowardly to attack people that shoot back or fight back.
The cause is not yet known
It’s getting to be a habit of late.
Stay safe! Oak Ridge has always been secure. If anybody gets to Oak Ridge, they did it from the inside IMO.
