KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Officials with Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge said there were no injuries nor any indication of a release of radioactivity after a fire involving uranium occurred early Wednesday.
According to a release from the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration, the fire occurred at 9:14 a.m. Steven Wyatt with NNSA said that there was a hood fire in Building 9212, a uranium procession facility. The building and some nearby areas were evacuated.
Tony Boser, a technical adviser, said that the fire was in a processing area and it was contained to that area. The cause of the fire is not yet known. Patterson said an investigation is ongoing.
All employees have been accounted for and there were no injuries, Consolidated Nuclear Security spokesperson Gene Patterson said.

Was some gay dude appointed to run the place (who also steals women’s luggage so he can play dress up) running the place and is he in over his head?
Responded to wrong post. No..off the East Coast somewhere.
I think they call it the CDC Biorepository.
I almost lost my car on a mountainside near Chattanoogie..............
I’d be willing to bet there are others that we don’t know about.
Like under the Greenland Ice Cap..................
Plumb Island?
It’s easy to do here. The valley I live in is twisty and turny and that happens a lot.
Hopefully they were using a vintage asbestos fire-retardant fume hood. / [sarc]
You can find Geiger counters on Amazon for around $50.
Just saying...
Probably a nothingburger, but it would be nice to send a qualified person like Dr. Fauci in with a Geiger counter and a mop just to be sure...
I was in the Marines back about ‘76 or so and we stopped on one of those overlook sites they have at the side of the roads, to see the mountain vista.
I didn’t set the handbrake, and the car rolled forward when we all got out.
The only thing that stopped it from going over the cliff was a tree that the front bumper lodged against.
The front wheels were off the ground in the air!
We four young Marines could not push or pull the car back.
Luckily, some local guys in a 4wd pickup stopped by and pulled it back into the parking lot!....................
No. I used to fish there with my Dad. Plum Island has a bird sanctuary and a camp for disabled kids. The one I'm thinking of is offshore but within US territorial waters. More Southern than near Cap Cod. I think it's called the CDC Biorepository or similar.
We’re just 15 minutes from there. This is the first we heard about it.
They’re too busy being woke to pay much attention to safety.
Our good old boys still love pulling people out of spots with their FWD’s.
Around here, guys pull touristy folks out of sand...............
“Which way is the wind blowing?.”
Hopefully not south, or I’ll have to bend over and kiss my ass goodbye.
The air is safe to drink and the water is safe to breathe.............
SSW at 17 mph here.
“Some of the dogs registered on the Geiger we had... “
For six years we lived directly across the Clinch River from ORNL. You could fish in the Clinch (big fish — nuclear?), but you absolutely could not eat them.
Also, most every house on our road had at least one case of cancer in it.
