Support for DeSantis cools in latest GOP primary poll

Support for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis becoming the Republican Party’s presidential nominee is waning, according to a new poll.

Approval for Mr. DeSantis slipped by 5 percentage points compared to former President Donald Trump in the latest Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll released exclusively to The Hill on Friday.

Mr. DeSantis now trails Mr. Trump — 23% to 46%. He previously trailed Mr. Trump by 20 percentage points in January’s poll.

Mr. Trump also comes out on top in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup with Mr. DeSantis, 56% to 44%, according to the latest poll.

Another sign that Mr. DeSantis is losing ground with voters emerges when the former president is removed from the GOP’s potential primary field. The poll found that 39% of Republican voters would support Mr. DeSantis for the Republican nomination if Mr. Trump wasn’t on the ballot — a 10-point drop from January’s poll.

Hopefully this reassures Trump so he can focus on attacking Biden and the Democrats instead of fellow conservatives.

After DeSantis said Russia was a 3rd rate pushover, the neocons immediately started beating the war drums.

Amazing stuff.

Word is slowly getting out that DeSantis is a deep state neocon warmonger, I suspect that is why his support is beginning to slip.

It’s early in the game. Not even the 2nd inning yet. The final score remains unknown.

The vast majority of REPUBLICANS now only knows Donald Trump. Polls are meaningless. Juan McCain had only about 1% support in 2007 at this time. (He should have stayed at 1%.)

As I have said before, people are easily duped. Anyone who believes that is gullible.

I’ll gladly vote for Trump over any Dem.

However, I worry that Trump is kind of moving into Biden dementia territory with stories like DeSantis crying while begging for Trump’s support. That just sounds like the kind of outright lie that Biden would tell. I hope we don’t start hearing Trump talking about that ‘bad dude’ Popcorn or driving trucks with ‘Big Mama’.

I think for a several strongly held reasons a lot, probably a majority, of Republicans want Ron to wait until 28. DeSantis said last year if Trump runs he would not because he believed Trump’s 2nd term was stolen from him. A lot of us feel that way. Think how much better everything would be if had been allowed to have his second term.

No doubt...things would be DIFFERENT because they could not be the same...but a second term was not Trump's destiny.

We've learned some tough lessons...women are "one item" voters and we have yet to succeed at getting out the vote like the Dems.

I have yet to find where he said he would not run if Trump ran...and so far...he has not said definitively that he would run.

I think DeSantis would be wise to wait until 2028. When Trump gets trounced again in 2024, and the Democrats get the presidency for 4 more years, the stars will align for a Republican to get enough votes to overcome the fraud.
