Virginia state Sen. Jennifer McClellan, D-Richmond, will face Republican challenger Leon Benjamin in a special election Tuesday to fill the 4th Congressional District seat left vacant by the death of Democratic Rep. Donald McEachin.

The 4th congressional district, which stretches from Richmond to the North Carolina border, has had a Democratic representative since 2016 when McEachin was first elected to Congress. Leading up to the November election in 2022 when McEachin won reelection just weeks before his death, Cook Political Report designated the seat “solid Democrat.”

Any boots on the ground in Virginia represented here to give a feel for how today’s vote will go. Beyond what the article said.

“McClellan overwhelmingly defeated other challengers in a firehouse primary in December, where she won roughly 85% of the vote.”

Firehouse Primaries held by the Democrat Party are rife with corruption and 85% means absolutely noticing as an indicator of today’s election.

I would look for heavy Republican turnout in this off-year Virginia race, with dynamics similar to the 2021 Virginia elections.

This is a 41 % black district and overwhelmingly democrat. If the GOP got 40% it would be a minor miracle. It would be a major miracle if they actually won.

You jest. The rats will win easily. This district has been throughly carpet bagged with wokes and negroe gimme dats. Your comments would be more accurate in circa 2000 than today.

That firehouse primary is suspicious and is no indicator of outcome of the special election.

Just look for strong Republican turnout and if that exists, there is a chance to pick up a house seat.

Until it was gerrymandered by judicial fiat in 2016 — not by the state legislature — SPECIFICALLY for the purpose of ousting a Republican and replacing him with a negro Democrat, this district used to elect Republicans or at least moderate to conservative Democrats, if you go back far enough in time to when such things as moderate Democrats actually existed.

The district is hopeless now, the Republicans have zero chance of winning here and tonight’s anointing of the ultra-liberal Rat (replacing the dead ultra-liberal Rat) is a mere formality.

NYC now has RCV for mayoral elections.

If people of color were still voting lockstep with Dems, why would NYC need RCV...?

The words strong and Republican are oxymorons.

I appreciate the input so we can know what to expect. So many conservative states are finding the same thing happening to their districts. Even in my rural area, the liberals are moving here for the inexpensive land and buying up large acreage tracts for double the price per acre from three years ago, and thus pricing locals out of the market. They then built a 5,000 or more square foot house, with a helicopter pad nearby, and increase the taxes on all surrounding property.

Next, they start voting for the most liberal and ignorant person who has been deliberately moved to our county just for that mission. A couple times over the past two election cycles it has been a black female new resident that runs on a platform of more public housing and bus service to the liberal town 15 miles away. Thankfully, they lost and have a few years got tired of being ignored and moved away. Oh, and since they can’t obey the rules of the road, they want more stop lights. For decades we have had the country rules of stop signs and four-way stops, with known considerations which apply (unless you are reading your mail, applying some hand lotion or lipstick, and just waive the person on your left to just go ahead). We do not need a red-light on every corner.

It is all we can do to hold them off. Our county has gone from 85% or 90% conservative ten years ago, to now only 65 to 70% with many national races even closer.

I will fight them to the bitter end!

We lost. We lost in New Hampshire as well. And the most liberal Supreme Court candidate in Wisconsin just made the ballot. Bad night for republicans.

That’s for sure. Since 2018, it’s been pretty awful. Republicans need to regroup and start bringing real issues that americans want right now. Social security cuts and nationwide ban on abortion are not the issue’s important currently.

Jennifer McClellan (D) 71,760 72.2%

Leon Benjamin (R) 27,699 27.8%

86% of vote in

I would say it was a win for Jennifer McClellan.
