Sources say the suspect told investigators he melted the gun he used in the killing of Officer Christopher Fitzgerald.
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- It only took 12 hours for police to arrest the suspect accused of killing Temple University Police Officer Christopher Fitzgerald on Saturday night.
Miles Pfeffer, 18, was taken into custody Sunday morning at his home on Quarry Road in Buckingham Township, Bucks County.
On Monday morning, Temple police transported Pfeffer to Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility. He has now been arraigned, and formally charged with murder and murder of a police officer.
It wasn't hard for police to track Pfeffer's movements. Action News is told most of the incident was captured on surveillance video.
Authorities say the 18-year-old deliberately and fatally shot Officer Fitzgerald after a short pursuit and struggle on North 18th Street near Temple University's campus.
According to court records obtained by Action News, Officer Fitzgerald was initially responding to reports of a robbery near 17th Street and West Montgomery Avenue when he first encountered Pfeffer.
After the shooting, authorities say Pfeffer stood over the officer and shot him several more times in the head while he was on the ground. Pfeffer is also accused of trying to rob Officer Fitzgerald of his service weapon but was unsuccessful.
Action News spoke to U.S. Marshal Robert Clark who was there when Pfeffer was caught. He says Pfeffer was apprehended using Officer's Fitzgerald handcuffs.
"That's a tradition that we do, any time there's a fallen officer," said Clark.

I just saw on Jesse Waters that the 18 year old called his mommy after the carjack for a ride home and she picked him up.
Then she helped him burn the gun.
His little brother was also questioned - I wonder if he was with him for the murder?

In a just world Mommy would be charged with accessory to murder, harboring a fugitive, obstruction of justice and tampering with evidence.
But this is Shapirostan.
Absolutely devoid of morals or conscience. Total sociopath. He needs to be removed from society permanently.
He’s probably already a prison prom queen
Mom is a real intelligent piece of shit
I wonder if Shapiro will allow the death penalty for this one?
They would probably use the vagina defense and skate any serious charges.
A pair of pliers and a blowtorch.
‘Law enforcement sources tell Action News that Pfeffer had a previous run-in with the law in Bucks County. As a juvenile, he was arrested and charged with Terroristic Threats related to a bomb threat at Central Bucks South High School in 2021, sources said.’
The officer at the time was trying to apprehend a person who robbed a nearby convenience store, Temple said in a statement Saturday night.
On Saturday, February 18, at 7:12 p.m., officer Fitzgerald was heard over the radio in a foot pursuit of a suspect in all black clothing, police said.
Officer Fitzgerald told the suspect to get on the ground multiple times before the suspect began shooting, police know from sound and video surveillance, sources said.
According to police, once Fitzgerald was on the ground, the suspect stood over him and fired more shots into his face and head.
Then the suspect searched the officer’s pockets and tried to steal his service weapon, but couldn’t get the gun out of the holster, police said.
Any idea why US Marshals were involved in this?
Administered frequently enough it would no longer be “unusual punishment”
Extra muscle for a high risk warrant service.
For all I know the PSP SERT team may have been on close standby.
