WASHINGTON, DC - NOVEMBER 15: Sen.-elect John Fetterman (D-PA) stands for a photo opportunity in Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer's (D-NY) office at the U.S. Capitol on November 15, 2022 in Washington, DC. John Fetterman (D-PA) is reportedly set to miss weeks of work after checking himself into a hospital this week for severe depression.
NBC News reporter Dasha Burns tweeted, “A senior aide to Senator Fetterman tells me he will likely be in inpatient care for clinical depression for ‘a few weeks.'”
“A senior aide says it’s been difficult to distinguish the stroke from the depression – saying it’s hard to tell at times if Fetterman is ‘not hearing you, or is he sort of crippled by his depression and social anxiety,'” Burns continued. “A senior aide tells me both the staff and Fetterman himself were taken by surprise by the severe onset of depression.”
“The aide also says this hasn’t compromised his ability to do the job going forward, and he will be back to work once he has taken care of his mental health,” Burns added.
Fetterman’s office revealed Thursday that the freshman senator checked himself into a hospital on Wednesday night for mental health issues.
The statement said that the decision to check Fetterman into the hospital came after the attending physician of the United States Congress recommended that he do so.
“Last night, Senator John Fetterman checked himself into Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to receive treatment for clinical depression,” his office said. “While John has experienced depression off and on throughout his life, it only became severe in recent weeks.”
“On Monday, John was evaluated by Dr. Brian P. Monahan, the Attending Physician of the United States Congress,” the statement said. “Yesterday, Dr. Monahan recommended inpatient care at Walter Reed. John agreed, and he is receiving treatment on a voluntary basis.”
The New York Times reported late last week that Fetterman was struggling with “serious mental health” issues and often cannot understand the words that others are saying to him following the stroke that nearly killed him last year.
The report said that Fetterman’s struggles are significantly worse when he is under any kind of stress.
Fetterman has indicated that when he’s under stress, people’s voices become muffled, the report said.
The report comes following Fetterman’s hospitalization last week after feeling lightheaded at a Democrat Senate retreat.
Fetterman’s staff claimed that doctors said that he did not have another stroke and that they were checking for signs of seizures.
The report noted that the stroke last year has taken a “very real psychological toll” on him and that he has “had to come to terms with the fact that he may have set himself back permanently by not taking the recommended amount of rest during the campaign.”
Fetterman’s office released a statement last Friday claiming that medical tests from the health episode came back negative.
“A few minutes ago, Senator John Fetterman was discharged from The George Washington University Hospital,” the statement said. “In addition to the CT, CTA, and MRI tests ruling out a stroke, his EEG test results came back normal, with no evidence of seizures.”
“Sad what people will do for power and money,”
Yes it is....been following the Murdaugh trial pretty much since the beginning......it’s a perfect example of that......which because of those very reasons resulted in the deaths of two people regardless of who did it.
Well it stands to reason that to win elections these days, you have to win the "stupid vote". Actually, and this isn't a knock on Trump at all, Trump understood this point. That's what people don't get about winning elections, you do have to appeal to stupid people to a degree, and too many on our side, don't want to play that game.
Do the committees that he serves on need a majority to advance legislation to the Senate floor?
One can be married to an American citizen and not be naturalized
How do they predict the outcome in weeks?
What if Marianne Williamson or Deepak Chopra visit him and teach him mindfulness techniques or meditation?
Rare to be hospitalized with walk-in depression for weeks.
How do they predict the outcome in weeks?
Tells me he’s way worse off than they’re telling us..
Probably another stroke
[[In 2022 He himself knew he wasn’t well. His family knew he wasn’t well. The Democrats of PA knew he wasn’t well.
They all lied to the world. And with the help of fraud, made this freak a US Senator.
Zero sympathy]]
Sound just like the last presidential election- They are still hiding his problems
Something is going on that we ain’t privy to............
Should have sympathy for our country.
Agree!
And I admit that it took me a while to accept that!
Unwritten political ad rule, dumb down content to lowest common denominator.
agree
That was always the plan.
I trust your hunches more than work of the “professional journalists” who dole out a little propaganda on a need to know basis.
It would be a real shame for voters here in Pennsylvania if Senator Fetterman resigns. I fully support him in his recovery. He should remain in the hospital for as long as it takes. Quite honestly, we need a healthy and fully function Senator. That could take a very long time, even months or years, but it’s the Christian thing to do.
Pushed him too hard, as in tried to push him down the stairs? No wonder he depressed and wants to be locked away for a while. Kind of like protective custody.
WEEKS???
Sounds to me like he’s had a total mental breakdown.
What a farce in Pennsylvania...
Senatorette festerman waiting in the wings? 😵
