John Fetterman (D-PA) is reportedly set to miss weeks of work after checking himself into a hospital this week for severe depression.
NBC News reporter Dasha Burns tweeted, “A senior aide to Senator Fetterman tells me he will likely be in inpatient care for clinical depression for ‘a few weeks.'”
“A senior aide says it’s been difficult to distinguish the stroke from the depression – saying it’s hard to tell at times if Fetterman is ‘not hearing you, or is he sort of crippled by his depression and social anxiety,'” Burns continued. “A senior aide tells me both the staff and Fetterman himself were taken by surprise by the severe onset of depression.”
“The aide also says this hasn’t compromised his ability to do the job going forward, and he will be back to work once he has taken care of his mental health,” Burns added.
Fetterman’s office revealed Thursday that the freshman senator checked himself into a hospital on Wednesday night for mental health issues.
The statement said that the decision to check Fetterman into the hospital came after the attending physician of the United States Congress recommended that he do so.
“Last night, Senator John Fetterman checked himself into Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to receive treatment for clinical depression,” his office said. “While John has experienced depression off and on throughout his life, it only became severe in recent weeks.”
“On Monday, John was evaluated by Dr. Brian P. Monahan, the Attending Physician of the United States Congress,” the statement said. “Yesterday, Dr. Monahan recommended inpatient care at Walter Reed. John agreed, and he is receiving treatment on a voluntary basis.”
The New York Times reported late last week that Fetterman was struggling with “serious mental health” issues and often cannot understand the words that others are saying to him following the stroke that nearly killed him last year.
The report said that Fetterman’s struggles are significantly worse when he is under any kind of stress.
Fetterman has indicated that when he’s under stress, people’s voices become muffled, the report said.
The report comes following Fetterman’s hospitalization last week after feeling lightheaded at a Democrat Senate retreat.
Fetterman’s staff claimed that doctors said that he did not have another stroke and that they were checking for signs of seizures.
The report noted that the stroke last year has taken a “very real psychological toll” on him and that he has “had to come to terms with the fact that he may have set himself back permanently by not taking the recommended amount of rest during the campaign.”
Fetterman’s office released a statement last Friday claiming that medical tests from the health episode came back negative.
“A few minutes ago, Senator John Fetterman was discharged from The George Washington University Hospital,” the statement said. “In addition to the CT, CTA, and MRI tests ruling out a stroke, his EEG test results came back normal, with no evidence of seizures.”
This dude has sacrificed himself at the altar of liberalism.
True, but those are the most pathetic and really can’t function on a daily basis, without help they could not get dressed in the morning, all three should be in assisted care facilities
My son is married to a Columbian national and she still has to go through all the steps to becoming a citizen here.
It would have to be serious mental illness, psychotic episodes. Or it could be inpatient stroke rehab. Or both.
Well I guess the “majority” in the Senate just shifted by one. I assume he cannot vote by proxy.
They are rivaling Georgia lately in disappointing decision making. And that’s as nicely as I can say it.
Thank you. I was going to add the exception of the Civil War—I wasn’t sure if southern Senators resigned or not. Interesting that all but one case of actual expulsion was during the Civil War.
Since 1789 the Senate has expelled only 15 members. Of that
number, 14 were expelled during the Civil War for supporting
the Confederacy. In several other cases, the Senate
considered expulsion but either dropped those proceedings or
failed to act before the member left office. In those cases,
corruption was the primary cause of complaint.

It will take more than a few weeks to overcome the ongoing damage from the stroke, which is most likely the cause of the depression.
Fetterman is just not fit for the heavy work load of a Senator.
He really should resign and take care of his health problems, if he wants to see his three kids grow up.
I just had a horrible thought: Shapiro might appoint ex-Governor Tom Wolf to finish Fetterman’s term. Wolf has the creds.
I realize I’m repeating myself, but the “Good night, everybody” shows both how complex the brain is and how the stroke has affected Fetterman.
No native English speaker would use “Good night” as a greeting. But consider, ‘night’ and ‘evening’ are synonyms and can be used pretty much interchangeably except when greeting someone. The part of Fetterman’s brain that knows what all native English speakers ‘know’ was lost to him as a result of his stroke which apparently also took out his ability to comprehend what people are saying to him. He can hear them, but just can’t understand them.
Only the left hemisphere in right-handed people has language with the exception of a very few basic words. For some reason, left-handed people have language in both hemispheres which is why left-handers are much more likely to recover from this sort of stroke damage.
Sometimes you just feel like a nut(old candy commercial)
Shapiro cold appoint himself; no one could stop him and ‘Senator’ has a nice ring to it.
Marianne Williamson
For a woman of her age, she’s not unattractive.
I’d be willing to put up with some of her “mindfulness techniques”.

So, he gets gold standard hospital care, relaxing time off from work, & doesn’t have to worry about being fired or not getting a paycheck. Compare that to the plebes who vote.
