I have a frat bro in SF. He’s as conservative as they come but he has gotten used to the sheetholiness of the city. He was astounded that we don’t have homeless people where I live, like it was just not possible.

You might be right. Lord knows the world does not make much sense anymore! I just can’t see the attraction for him but I could say the same about Biden and they pulled it off.
I also think there is a good chance that Trump and the GOPe fractures the GOP in the primary and he has no margin for error(s) or a “not-Trump” candidate that pulls even 2% (plus the usual 1% libertarian vote).

Fair point. I never understood the messianic glow of Obama either so perhaps even I underestimate their true power. FWIW - I often remark on how powerful their ability to create a narrative is.
There is one reason for a bit of optimism though. IF we believe the polling numbers of these same people they do not have an infinite amount of capital with the American people.
The media has picked some real duds in the last 12-16 years and each year fewer people seem to trust them (for good reason).

California will go to great lengths to chase money that moves out of state. There was a story of a man who sold his patent and moved to Nevada, California tried to take a cut of his royalty income even years after he was no longer a resident.
But the real issue here is the state is not really "managed" at all. The governor and legislature are termed limited so they all spend their time working for their next job. The bureaucrats run the state; and they are a huge voting block, so the legislature and governor just rubber stamp their budgets. Nevermind electricity in unreliable, gasoline is twice as expensive, roads are full of potholes, crime is out of control. Those who can afford to leave leave, those who can afford to look like they left will take all the measures to avoid the appearance of living in state to avoid taxes. A few high profile cannot pull that off but they arrange it so they have many corporate holdings and keep the cash and profits out of state only bringing in what they need - just like Apple and Google and Facebook and many others that make billions in profits but pay 2% income tax. Or if they are among the ultra rich, their net worth is tied up in unrealized stock and options gains so they can just live off margin loans and never take a capital gain tax (which in California is the same rate as income tax - nearly 14% for top bracket earners!).
No noticeable homeless around here either. The -20F weather tends to chase them off to warmer places.
Actually, it depends upon WHO COUNTS THE BALLOTS. Votes and ballots are only loosely related concepts in the current era.
They don’t go where there are no services for the homeless. We barely have any services at all.
