This is all well and good, but CO2 is not as dangerous as toxic Dihydrogen Monoxide (DHMO).
How about piping DHMO, which is ubiquitous on the surface, and pumping that 1 mile down for storage.
It’s my understanding that DHMO is safe down there, easy to store, and natural aquifers can contain it.
I’d be happier if they turned the CO2 into dry ice. Dang hard to find, these days.
Just hold your breath and stop drinking alcohol. Breathing and producing alcohol released CO2 into the atmosphere. So if you stop drinking the alcohol, they’ll stop making it, and if you stop breathing, that’ll be that./satirically but modestly proposed.

Here’s an idea. Let them get permits and build pipelines for CO2. Then when sanity makes an appearance in government, pipe oil and other needed goodies in those pipes.

BTW, there is at least one major US oil company that is injecting CO2 for secondary recovery here in the oil patch. They actually have drilled CO2 production wells in NE New Mexico and pipe the CO2 for oil recovery.
