Senior Biden official says the US can't keep doing 'anything and everything' for Ukraine in the war: The Washington Post

Ukraine's leaders have been told that aid from the US may not last forever, an official from President Joe Biden's administration told The Washington Post this week.

The senior official told The Post the Biden administration has a "very strong view" that continually approving large aid packages for Ukraine will be difficult with a Republican-led House.

"We will continue to try to impress upon them that we can't do anything and everything forever," said the official, referring to conversations the administration's staffers have had with Ukraine's leaders. The official was granted anonymity by The Post to talk about sensitive foreign policy matters.

Biden said during his State of the Union address on February 7 that the US will support Ukraine for "as long as it takes." But the senior official told The Post that Biden's undertaking did not "pertain to the amount of assistance" that the US might give Ukraine in the future.

Speaking to The Post anonymously, several administration officials also said they have told Ukraine's government that now — while the US and other allies are still sending economic and military aid — is Ukraine's best chance to launch a full offensive against Russia, to try to turn the tide of the war.

The Post's report comes amid news reports that Russia may be launching a renewed assault on Ukraine. The BBC reported that Russia is attempting to capture the eastern Ukrainian city of Bakhmut before the first anniversary of the Ukraine war on February 24.

With 2/3 of Republicans supporting trading Ukrainian land for peace, the GOP House will cut the legs out from under Ukraine.

This after more than a year of the Biden admin promising to do whatever it takes, for as long as it takes.

Ukraine believed it.

Along with the Budapest Memorandum this is prima facie proof Ukraine is not smart enough to be its own country.

“Europe’s militaries, meanwhile, are emptying their military arsenals to send howitzers to Ukraine. Denmark, for one, is sending all of its Caesar howitzers to Ukraine, at the cost of delaying its own military build-up.

NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg warned on Monday that Ukraine is “consuming an enormous amount of munitions and depleting allied stockpiles.”

“The current rate of Ukraine’s ammunition expenditure is many times higher than our current rate of production,” Stoltenberg said. “This puts our defense industries under strain.”

This Republican still doesn’t give a damn about Russia or Ukraine. I really don’t care about it other than wasting our money and driving us deeper into debt. Although, with Biden blowing up a pipeline I am concerned about long term relations it Russia. If we don’t get into WW3, we certainly are heading into another Cold War. After Biden’s and the Pentagon’s Charlie Foxtrot in Afghanistan it should have abundantly clear that we do not want to exert power while Biden is CIC. The recent balloonapalooza reinforces that.

Why are we doing anything at all?

The Ukraine is not our ally. It’s not even a friend..

And our government does not a damned thing to help our people in East Palestine, Ohio. Ordinarily, if there is the slightest oil spill, the EPA and Transportation Dept. are there in droves and in full-blown hysteria. Pets are dying, the songbirds have disappeared and conflicting advice abounds. But this town is a bunch of working class folks who voted 71 percent for Donald Trump, making it of as much interest to the Dems in Congress and Transportation Secretary Mr. Butt as would West Virginia.

Would have been a lot cheaper and more effective to just let Ukraine keep its nukes after the Soviet Union fell - nations armed with nuclear weapons don’t get invaded. But no, our Bushies and Clintonites followed their “no nukes” religion and here we are.

I said it on another thread, but only a fool would believe a promise from Uncle Sam when it comes to war. We change administrations and governments every 2-4 years so a promise today has a short shelf life.

Just ask the Afghans, Iraqis, Libyans, Syrians, Kurds, and Montagnards how it worked out for them. While none of them were “perfect allies” we pulled the rug out from underneath them when it became politically expedient to do so.

I would NEVER trust any American diplomat.

We can say that now, but things were pretty chaotic in the Eastern Bloc nations after the USSR dissolved and LOTS of weapon systems were hitting the black market.

Getting rid of the nukes then likely avoided a bigger tragedy later. I can’t argue with your reasoning about the current situation, but with the corruption in the Ukraine I have little doubt that some of them would have sold a nuke or two for a few million on the black market if they had them.

I am still surprised that some of the Russians who were not getting paychecks did not sell some of their smaller nukes on the black market. People forget, but some of their soldiers went 6 months or longer without getting a paycheck.

Twice the world has been plunged into bloody conflict because of European inter-tribal squabbles.

Do we really want to risk a third time over a couple of break-away provinces in Ukraine?

Well we’ve given enough for their defense. But it didn’t have to be this way.

Ukraine was neutral and wanted to join the EU as part of a trading alliance.

Then Odinga had to stage a coup against the wishes of the EU.

A truthful assessment of Obama presidency would have to be negative. Color revolutions, terrorist groups flourishing, nothing good for us or other countries.

Sure we can. We are only $180 Trillion in unpayable debt & liabilities. We can easily add Trillions more.
