The first infant to be surrendered at a Safe Haven 'baby box' in Kentucky is 'healthy' and 'perfect'

A baby in Kentucky was the first in the state to be safely left in a Safe Haven "baby box" device earlier this week after the state passed a law permitting parents to "anonymously place newborn infants" in state custody.

The device, just one of 16 in the state, had only been installed at a fire station in Bowling Green, Kentucky, two months prior, Safe Haven Baby Boxes founder and CEO Monica Kelsey said in a press conference on Friday.

"This baby is healthy, this baby is beautiful, this baby is perfect, and the Department of Child Services is now looking for a forever home," Kelsey said, according to local news station WNKY.

She added that fire department employees were able to retrieve the baby in less than 90 seconds. Baby boxes are installed in a "conspicuous" place on the exterior walls of participating hospitals, fire departments, and police stations — and only at institutions that are staffed for 24 hours a day.

When an infant is placed inside, it immediately triggers an alarm to inform the staff.

We need to read good news sometimes.

FYI - In the medieval period, people would leave babies in "foundling wheels," similar to these baby boxes.

God bless the baby.

James Michener “was a foundling discovered in Doylestown, Pennsylvania; there is uncertainty about the date and place of his birth.” He died at 90 and had sold 75 million copies of his books such as Tales of the South Pacific and Hawaii.

Confederacy President Jefferson Davis and Frederick Douglass were also foundlings.

I pray that baby lives a long happy life.
And God bless the mother, whatever the circumstances the made her give up her child.
God knows, this is a much better solution that the one favored by our ungodly government.

Damn straight.

The child gets to live, to grow up and carry out his purpose in life.

The child’s mother gets to go on with her life knowing that she did not succumb to the temptation to commit murder.

When my wife and I were done having kids, we offered up some of the furniture via Catholic services. A young lady contacted us and she was about a week or two giving birth and she was going to put the baby in a drawer with blankets and a pillow. We gave her everything we had. Crib, travel cribs, changing table, couple high chairs and anything extra we had because she said her mom would be taking care of the baby for her. I remember her breaking down and crying. I’ve often wondered about what happened to her and the baby. Also made us realize how blessed we were to be able to help someone out.

But if a man does not pay for his child, the government goes after him and imprisons him for none payment. A woman can literally dump the baby off onto government and face no consequences.

I hope that the father of the baby is sought and found.

We have adopted two babies and fostered 8 until someone was able to adopt them.

Yours is a wonderful story.

The Middle Temple in London (one of the Inns of Court) was traditionally a place where babies were left. The Middle Temple is not within any parish boundaries, so the foundlings could not be put "on the parish" (i.e. the Poor Law relief). The members of the Inn took care of the children and their upbringing. They were all given the last name "Temple."

Hundreds of infants were left in the Middle Temple in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Lots of things suck ... but this is better than killing the baby.

They were all given the last name "Temple."

Is that where Shirley's last name came from?
