Germany has pledged more Gepard anti-aircraft tanks to Kyiv as Ukraine looks to fend off sustained drone attacks from Iranian-made unmanned aerial vehicles.
On February 8, Andriy Yermak, the head of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's office, said Ukraine had secured a new tranche of military aid from Germany, including more Gepards.
Berlin will send an additional two Gepard, or "Cheetah," anti-aircraft guns, along with 6,000 rounds of ammunition, Yermak wrote on Telegram.
In an updated tally as of Sunday, the German government has delivered 32 Gepard air defense systems to Ukraine, up from the previous figure of 30.
A further five Gepards are "in planning," according to the German government website.
The Gepard is an armored, all-weather self-propelled anti-aircraft gun developed back in the 1960s. Made by defense manufacturer Krauss Maffei-Wegmann (KMW), Gepards have been supplied to countries such as Germany, Belgium, Romania and the Netherlands.

I wonder if the Russians are using ZSUs in the same role?

This is very effective against Rus-Iranian drones. Check out the double barrels.

I will trade you one (WW2) Panzer Division for...
For a split second I thought that Richard had come back to life. (Gephardt)
Seven bogies? That’s a main battle tank chassis. Looks to be a hard working piece of gear. With twin gatling guns that 6,000 rounds won’t last long. Hope they’ve got refills figgered out?
Presumably they could. It probably depends on what drones the Ukes are using and whether they show up on the ZSU radar.
The fairly large Iranian things do show up on the Gepard radar, making the Gepards useful for point defense against them. Of course, one needs to guess at what the Russians consider good targets for the drones in order to put the Gepards in the right place.
As far as I know the Ukes aren’t using anything like the Iranian drones, so the ZSU-23 would be operating in different circumstances. Probably close to the front line to defend against artillery spotters.
nice that Russia is giving us a chance to try out all this equipment under actual combat situations
I have seen a video of the Gepard drone intercepts. They don’t really have to shoot many rounds
These are old pieces, no longer in service. It’s just fortuitous that they work well for this limited use.
Thats one reason ammo for them has proven to be a problem, as it was long out of production.

The Germans started up a new ammunition line (manufacturing) for these drone killers. So time will tell as always.
“Check out the double barrels.”
35 mm guns
Close enough to Gov’t work to get you running around in circles. The Gepard twin guns will obliterate Iranian drones and very cheaply.
To every problem there is a solution.
40 mph top speed helps getting on target.
It’s not a Gatling Gun but twin, very rapid firing auto cannon. It shoots about a 1 second or so burst at a time.
Fully self contained system with radars and fire control computer.
The bigger problem with the Iranian drones is detecting them and targeting in the dark. The Gepard radar seems to work well for that.
6,000 rounds? Is that all?
